I use Acid Music Studio 5.0

I like to use midi for my piano sequences. So i record my piano track separately as a midi file. Then i go and record my vocals over top of the midi. So I have two separate tracks. one midi and a vocal track. But when I go to render it as one. Only my vocals show up on my new rendered file. The midi file is not there. So I am wondering if you can even have a midi track and a recorded vocal track together. I didn't want to look through the whole forum. So I am just hoping someone can help me . I am very very new to acid products so please help :)

What MIDI device were you using to play the piano sounds? If it wasn’t the DLS Soft Synth, then you need to route the audio output of that device to the audio input of your sound card so it can be recorded as audio in ACID.

For example, if you were using MIDI sounds on a Soundblaster card, there is a record utility that Creative gives you that will let you select MIDI as the record input. If you are using some other card, check that manufacturer’s instructions for recording the MIDI output of that card.

You can also try and use the Windows Volume control application to record everything the card plays. To do this:

1. Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > Entertainment > Volume Control
2. In the Volume program select Options > Properties
3. Click the Recording radio-button
4. Check the Stereo Mix checkbox
5. Press the OK button and a Stereo Mix fader will be added to the volume control
6. Check the Select checkbox for Stereo Mix fader and adjust the record volume

Then you need to go back into ACID and solo the MIDI track. Press the record button and select Audio record. This will record all the audio that plays on your PC. Be advised that it will record EVERYTHING. So if your PC beeps because a new email has arrived, that will be in your recording too. It is best to turn off PC sounds when recording audio.

If you are using an outboard hardware MIDI device, then you need to route the audio out of that device into the audio in of your PC. Solo the track and record the output of the MIDI device.

It is much easier if you use a Soft Synth (DLS or VSTi). There is nothing extra to do. Just render your track and all the instruments will render with it.

The complexity is introduced when you use hardware to make your sounds like an external synth or your sound card. In that case, you have to record the output of the hardware. There’s no way around it.

That’s why I only use VSTi Soft Synths. I just render my project and I’m done.

Am i right?, i see it this way:

1. you wrote your midi once
2. you wrote another instruments
3. then you render midi to audio file
4. then you render all the project to audio file

Does it look fair to pay money for 4 steps, when you could have only 3, and imagine if you want to edit some notes of midi track recorded!!! What should you do? You should "dig" your project components to find that midi source file. That is extra i think. As for me i use MIDI very seldom, but peple use it every day.

So i just wonder, is it so difficult to make a feature to let that people live easier?

There are only two steps:

1. Write your MIDI
2. Render you project.

That’s it. The only time you have to render MIDI to audio is if you are using EXTERNAL MIDI devices. That’s because you need to bring them into the computer in some way. Otherwise it is very easy to use MIDI with VSTi’s.
