I think this is based on HDCam SR...not sure. Panavision had some sweet cams based on the FW900 at the Sundance Film Fest. Odd seeing these huge magazines on the back of an FW900...
but this sounds like a very sexy setup. 4:4:4 HD, that's a FAT stream.

The Genesis has a full size 35mm feature film size sensor, and uses regular 35mm cine lenses.

It's designed to behave in every way like a 35mm cine camera, including the viewfinder, being self-contained, the magazines, etc.

Only one snag, I asked at a recent ASC seminar and the top pros thought it would be end of the year before this thing was working flawlessly.

Apparently it's not so easy...

When I was over at Panavision in Woodland Hills, they described eloquently how difficult it had been for them to convince Sony that feature film shooting was very different from ENG.

I sympathize with Sony though for not wanting to spend money on very expensive manufacturing tools for a very narrow market, but in the end Panavision had to do what they had to do: create a new cam that experienced 35mm cinematographers could work with immediately.

Like Panavision's HD-900F, the Genesis was built by Panavison, in close collaboration with Sony. Panavision does a bunch of custom hardware to fill the Hollywood Cinematographer-type needs, HDCAM and HDCAM SR are the respective recording formats.
