Yeah . .I got that one. I did a complete Uninstall Prog for ACID5 from Control Panel, rebooted machine and did a re-install and really took my time to allow my pc to do what it had to do . . and it DID take time .. the pc went quiet for a good couple of minutes and then Media Manager did install properly. . . Now I'm trying to undestand how MM works! - HAH! But that was my experience, Grazie Message last edited on3/15/2005 2:37:55 PM byGrazie. |

Yes you do have to be patient at times, but the install procedure for the media manager in 5.0a is better (we discovered and fixed some problems on certain PC configurations). Are you trying to install 5.0a? |

Sorry that this is not smoother for you. Hopefully we can pinpoint a root cause and get things humming. After you think you have ACID Pro 5.0a installed check these things out: 1. Use the control panel > admin tools > services applet to list the services on your PC. Do you have one named MSSQL$SONY_MEDIAMGR? 2. If yes, then select it and try to start it. Wait 15 seconds. Press F5 to refresh the services view. Does the Status stay at "Started"? 3. If yes, try to start ACID. If you get a media mgr failed to init error, then exit ACID and looks for a file named ACID50.log in C:\Program Files\Sony\ACID Pro 5.0. Windows explorer likes to hide file extensions of "known" files by default so you may have a difficult time determining which file in that directory is ACID50.log. The log file is a test file that can be opened in notepad. What are the contents? Also, which version of Windows are you running? 2000? XP Home? XP Pro? Which service packs? |

Hmmm. In Add/Remove Programs, try uninstalling ACID Pro 5.0a AND uninstalling the entry listed "Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine (MSSQL$SONY_MEDIAMGR)". Then reboot. Then try running setup again. After ACID 5.0 installs, it should say it will install the Sony Media Manager. Then you'll get another windows installer progress dialog that can take awhile to run. Do you see this? We may have to try getting you in touch with a customer service rep and getting detailed installer logs to figure out just what exactly is going on. What sort of PC is this running on in terms of performance? CPU speed? RAM? Again, sorry for this hassle. I'm disappointed this doesn't "just work" for you - it should. im thinking the problem is with my computer not the software but i dont know. acid installs fine and i can uses it but when the media manager goes to install it a box comes up saying its configureing the microsoft sql desktop server engine, that takes about a min when it gets about 1 to 2 seconds form the end a box pops up and says "setup failed to config. refer to server eror log and setup error log for more info" i dont know were the server error log is but the set up log is the second one in my last message. also when i open acid 5.0a it says that the mssql$sony_mediamgr servise doesnt exist. there is no meida manager stuff in the services or in the add remove progs. it never makes it past the config. i think im gonna try system restore tomorrow. my p.c. is a hp pavilion 522n it has has 1.8 ghz celeron , 512 ddr sdram, 60gb hard drive so its decent. iv already tryed uninstalling from the add remove progs. and it does the same thing. no matter what iv tryed so far it always does the same thing. thanks for all the help and its no problem at all. computers are funny. |

Hi misftsfiend77, I've got the same problem...and this occurred because I've changed the TMP and TEMP folders in XP setting (did it to have better performances). The online Sony's (via e-mail) help me a lot. I've make this steps: 1) unistall Acid pro 5.0; 2) set the folders and variables to the standard Windows installation; 3) reinstall Acid pro 5.0; 4) set the XP TMP and TEMP variables to my personal configuration again... ...and now Acid and Media Manager too work fine. I'm not sure that this help you, but I want to share experince with others. Cheers, Max and sorry for my bad english. |

Sometimes we've seen the SQL portion of the install fail with the "unable to configure" type of message if old files exist from a previous install (alas Microsoft installers don't always clean up everything). Try this: 1. Uninstall ACID Pro 5.0a and Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine (MSSQL$SONY_MEDIAMGR) using add/remove programs from control panel. 2. Use Windows Explorer to completely delete the folder C:\Program Files\Sony\Shared Plug-Ins\Media Manager. 3. Reboot 4. Try installing again. The gory details are here, but the above has been a good workaround when we have seen the issue: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;816499 Message last edited on3/16/2005 11:49:07 AM byjwf. |

Not sure how you ended up missing a registry key. If you are brave with regedit look for: HKLM\Software\Sony Media Software\Shared Information\Media Manager (HKLM = HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE) There should be a TemplateDir entry which by default points to this directory: C:\Program Files\Sony\Shared Plug-Ins\Media Manager\Media Library Templates There should also be an AssemblyName and ClassName keys. An uninstall / reinstall of ACID 5.0a should re-create the necessary key - unless you are getting some sort of error during install that you forgot to mention? I'm very sorry about all of this hassle - you may have found a hole in our installers. Under this same area in the registry: HKLM\Software\Sony Media Software\Shared Information\Media Manager (HKLM = HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE) do you have a string value named ReferenceLibDir? If not install the Sony Sound Series Loops and Samples Reference Library (either from the ACID CD or download it from here). It should create one. Something must have removed that registry key in your mix of installs and uninstalls. We'll check into this further. Please let me know if this resolves your error on launch. no there wasnt a string for that......... i installed the Sony Sound Series Loops and Samples Reference Library from the cd and it is there now and everything is looking fine for now......no idea if it will work with the download version if it though........no idea how it disappeared but it was gone till i installed that again...but i will have to remember this fix and pass it on cause i know a couple others this same problem has happened to..... thanks a million.:):):):) p.s.s. how about putting a repair option inside of the installer for when something like this happens.?.just a thought.:) |

Glad to hear it is working for you again - sorry again for the hassle. Note that if you don't value the Sony Sound Series Loops and Samples Reference Library, just don't enable it within the Media Manager options dialog. Then all you are paying resource wise is a bit of disk space for it (no memory or other runtime hit). We'll continue to test the installer scenarios to try to figure out how you could have gotten into this broken state. Two questions for you: 1. Do you recall off hand if you installed ACID Pro 5.0 and then later updated to 5.0a? Or did you just start with 5.0a? Both should work, but clearly something came along and removed the registry key. 2. Had you ever previously installed the Sony Sound Series Loops and Samples Reference Library and then later uninstalled it? Message last edited on4/12/2005 7:42:03 AM byjwf. |

i first installed 5.0 from the cd set and then did an update from the download of 5A from the website... far as Sony Sound Series Loops and Samples Reference Library goes if it uninstalls with the app when you unnstall then yes, but not by itself no ...... another thing is after i installed the new SF it went out then also, that was the 2nd time i uninstalled acid.........then reinstalled it........media manager has not worked sence then......... |
