Just installed 5.0. Haven't really messed with acid since 2.0. Just to test stuff out, I ran a quick drum loop and played four chords over it. During play back the guitar track is like 1/8 second behind the drums.

Any clue why it's doing that?

Yea. Soundcard latency. What type of soundcard are you using? Does it have ASIO drivers and are you using them? What sample rate and bit depth are you recording at?

Guess I should have thought of that. Right now just running through onboard. I was only able to find one other soundcard laying around here. I'm about to shut down and pop that in to see if it'll make a difference. Sampe rate and bit depth were default. I just installed the program, plugged in and recorded something quick to test it. Be back in 5.

You really need a card with ASIO drivers to get low latency in ACID. What you can try is a free driver call ASIO4ALL. This may get the latency down to a reasonable level. I use this on my Laptop when I‘m just using the motherboard sound.

If you think you’re going to be doing a lot of recording and you want good quality, you can pick up a low-end pro sound card like the M-Audio Audiophile 2496 for around $99. Stay away from game cards, they are designed for great playback, but lack good analog to digital converters for clean recording.

Only actual card I've got laying around is an old Aureal Vortex, but I'm not even sure where that is.

Can you reccommend something "decent" for $30-$60? Decent of course meaning bare minimum. :(

If you just want to play around recording in that price range, the Creative Audigy 2 is $65 and has ASIO drivers. The Soundblasters don’t have ASIO drivers so stay away from them. For a little more ($99) you can get a Pro sound card like the M-Audio Audiophile 2496.

Did you try ASIO4ALL? That is FREE! (and might just work)

I did try them and it helped, but there's still a little lag there.

just so you know.... You can manually adjust the audio latency in preferences.
