P4 1.3GHz
512MB Ram
Nvdia TNT2 Model 64 AGP4x. Memory 32MB
XP SP2
I’m still trying to sort out these clicks and stuttering that I am getting on playback while using Acid or WMP10. In Windows Task Bar my CPU usage jumps between 70% to 100% while my PF Usage stays steady at around 250mb while this is happening and I am wondering if I have a underpowered Graphics Card which is eating into CPU recourses. CPU usage returns to normal when I click off the visualisation screen. What kind off graphics does Acid require to work normally? Should I upgrade my graphics card? (I am a non-gamer by the way)

Have you tried the standard troubleshooting steps for video, like reducing or turning video acceleration off?

Try a couple other video drivers if the latest drivers don't work well.

Some cards are built quite well for 3D gaming but aren't great for 2D performance in Windows. These are few and far between though. You should be fine with that kind of card especially if you don't go too high in resolution.

I’ve just spent the afternoon tweaking XP by reducing my background services and processes and start up progs to the bare minimum and have managed to get my ram down to around 60mb. I also have all the latest drivers for my graphics card. I updated my drivers last week, but this did not help.I have also changed my playback device to a basic Soundblaster PCI card. This has reduced the dropouts on WMP and Acid playback but not completely and my CPU usage is as high as ever.
I have a TFT 17in Monitor. In display properties my Screen Res. Is 1280 by 960 and colour quality is set at 32bit and I have screen saver turned off.

I used to use a PIII 800 MHz w/384 MB of PC133 SDRAM and a Radeon 32 MB DDR (AGP 4x) with ACID Pro 5. No problems with ACID or WMP10. My screen res was set at 1024x768 @ 32-bit.

I'm thinking that maybe your weak link is your sound card and maybe your hard drive. I use an Echo MiaMIDI with two 7200 RPM hard drives. One of the hard drives is an UltraATA 100 (the system drive) while the other is an UltraATA 133 (the media drive). Both are configured on separate IDE channels for optimum performance.
