I am a data recovery anaylist working for a client who recorded a live show using Music Studio. After the recording was completed, before it was saved a youngster tripped on the power cord, eliminating power to the compter. I would assume the audio was recorded to a temp file of some sort. I would like to know from anyone if they know the default directory for Acid recordings, and if it is a propriatary file or a .wav file (or anyother audio file type) so I can find what I am looking for. I adivsed the client not to touch anything on the computer which he hasn't so far. It is Win XP Pro. I found this directory which I believe may be a starting point: "C:\programfiles\sonicfoundry\acid\temp" Stevis319@gmail.com Thank you. |

The temp folder can be set by the user in Options > Preferences on the General tab so it could be anything. I would NOT start the application just in case it purges the temp folder at the start of each session. I think the default will depend on what version of ACID you have and what operating system you are using. I would call Sony tech support and have them walk you through it. Don’t mess around with data recovery. BTW, the recorded data is stored as a WAV file in its final form. ~jr Message last edited on3/9/2005 4:42:04 PM byJohnnyRoy. |

It really depends on how far you got before the mishap. ACID has a series of defaults for record paths and file names. Did you ever change any of these defaults? The default record path out of the box is X:\My Documents\ACID Pro 5.0 Projects. This can be set from the preference page "Folders". Did you name the file or not before starting the record? By default, it will be named "Record Take n" where n is the next number available that does not currently exist. So, I would look for a file with the date and time and possibly with a zero size in that default directory with the default naming convention. You might be able to recover something. You should safely be able to run ACID to determine the default record path using the prefs page. I would not suggest you open the record dialog to check this. Peter |

Thanks for the help guys. I was successfully able to recover the file. It was actually named "SFG5000.WAV" and stored in the "Sound Forge 5.0" folder. How it was named that or got there I don't know, but as long as the client's happy I'll let him believe it was deleted! ;) -Steve |
