Sorry for such a basic question, but I did a search and came up emtpy handed. When transferring the loops from the CDs to your hard drive, do you have a main "Loop" folder with subfolders for each CD or do you simply dump them all in one folder? Thanks! |

I create a folder called LOOPS and transfer my loop CDs to that. Main folder is called LOOPS. In that I have sub-folders called 8-PACKS, GET MEDIA LOOPS, LOOP LIBRARIES, etc. Mario |

I've got a "Loops" directory and under that I have additional directories by instrument. In the case of drums, for which I have, by far, the most loops, I have sub-directories. In those I have the loops broken out by CD, i.e., "Mick Fleetwood", "R&B", etc. This works well for me. I can usually find something I want pretty quickly. There is a sort of trade off, in that in one sense it might be best to throw every drum loop into a big pot so that as I preview them I might stumble on something great that I would never have thought to try. For me, that's one of the really great things about ACID. I have found drum parts from different genres that smoke together. If I wasn't sort of willy nilly clicking on loops with my main one playing, I would NEVER have come up with that drum part. Fun. Eric |

It doesn’t really matter where you put the loops with ACID Pro 5 because of the media manager, but I have a main directory called ACID Loops and then I create a subdirectory for each CD and place the CD structure in the subdirectory. ~jr |

Sorry JR, but I beg to differ. If you create sub-folders, it's much quicker to add the newly installed loops to the Media Manager, no? Instead of re-scanning the whole "main" folder, you only scan a sub-folder that might contain only a few dozen new, untagged loops. Example, I have ACID LOOPS / GET MEDIA / FEBRUARY 05. So I install my feb 2005 loops in that sub-folder then scan just that sub-folder instead of my main LOOPS folder to add them to the Media Library. Or am I missing something here. Good point Mario. Organizing in folders does help minimize re-scanning. I stand corrected. It’s still a good idea to maintain subfolders for each CD collection (which I do anyway out of habit now). ~jr |

Yes definitely a folder for each CD. That's how mine is also. Just don't be afraid to create a sub-folder when you have a few loops. It also reminds you where they come from. Example... Acid / Bill Laswell Acid / Cinematix Acid / Get Media (In get media I have each month and year of each release with their respective loops in that) Acid / Acid Planet Loops (remember the month long free loops they gave away?) And here's an important one to create! Acid / COPYRIGHTED LOOPS Whenever Acid Planet holds a remix contest and supplies parts of the original song, I put them in here to make sure I don't accidently use copyrighted material in other projects. The whole thing might look like Acid Loops / Copyrighted Loops / Madonna Remix. Mario |

> Jay! These aint dumb questions . . believe me. I truly believe that there are no dumb questions. If you don’t understand something you should feel free to ask. That’s how we learn. This specific question was an EXCELLENT question because it was about Workflow! We can all learn something from each other by sharing our workflow habits. (e.g., how do you organize your loops?). Great question. Keep ‘em comin’ Jay. I’m sure lots of lurkers are writing this all down. ;-) ~jr |

There are definitely no dumb questions. There will always be basic questions whos answers are hard to find. This one is an excellent example. It isn't mentioned in the HELP files I don't think. You did a search and came up empty. However, thanks to you, since you asked this question, anybody else searching for "Storing loops" will have an entire thread of good advice to help them. My sincere thanks to all who replied. I've created a folder called ACID LOOPS then added subfolders for each CD. It works great! |
