Well first off, do you expect to have 16 separate audio tracks?

If that's the case, Sound Forge is out of the question, it's a stereo audio editor only supporting L & R (two tracks) simultaneously.

You will need a multi-tracker such as Vegas.

Secondly, I took a quick look at that mixer's specs. You would have to research the data transfer methods available for it to see if any of them will transfer 16+ discrete data streams. One is Lightpipe and the other is via a parallel port I believe. It's not obvious on the website and I didn't download all the .pdf files.

Is this Vaio a laptop? You will have to consider whether it has enough muscle to to transfer all those streams simultaneously to the HDD.

If those add-on links don't transfer 16+ discrete streams you will have to look at an external soundcard with 16+ inputs connected either Firewire, PCMCIA or USB2 to the PC and your mixer's channel strips have to have direct inserts for each track you record. Again the PC's muscle is an issue combined with the bottleneck at the external soundcard's connection.

If it's a desktop then you are much better off since you can use (an) internal soundcard(s), faster and separate HDDs etc.

I guess you have helped me by letting me know that vegas is the way i should be looking. Yes it's a desktop 360 gig hd rz 56g a nice machine. I do know that ther are already upgrades for this mixer that bring it into the world of 5.1 anybody else out there
