Have you tried preparing in DVDAStudio and then burning with some other program such as Nero?

I had a similar experience as well. After burning many DVDs and having them not play on my "Brand new Sony DVD Player" I tried playing the DVDs on my daughter's cheap Emerson and Sanyo players and they played fine. My new "Sony" player only likes Hollywood style DVDs and even then will sometimes play only about two thirds of the DVD before beginning to skip. etc. I TRASHED the Sony player and purchase a Phillips player for about $100 and it plays everything I burn, i.e., +Rs and -Rs, as well +RWs--it plays them all.
Does your computer play the DVDs burned on it? If not you have a different problem than I had since any DVD burned on my computer also played on it as well. Sorry, I can't offer more help but maybe this post will give you something else to look at. Perhaps (jetdv's) suggestion might be the next move. Good luck. FYI: I am also using a Sony burner in a Sony Vaio XP computer.

Giro,

At the risk of making you hate me I will suggest your problems might stem from the dumbed down version of DVD-A2. I author DVDs on a daily basis and test them on two very unforgiving machines: a COSTCO Koss (which is supposed to play anything har har) and a 1999 vintage Sony DVD player that plays, well, DVDs. All my DVD-R discs authored in DVD-A2 will play in these machines, meaning they'll play in 99% of the machines out there. The only major problems I've had were with DVD+R media -- the Koss could not play the discs at all. Other problem is runnnig discs through the duplicator at 8X -- too many older players struggle with the copies so I duplicate at 4X using only Verbatim DVD-Rs.

I know DVD-A2 generally makes decent masters becasue many of the jobs I do for the local oil companies go to the Replicator who will use my DVD-R Master wo run off 6 or 7 thousand copies. Haven't lost a contract yet because of bad discs. I think there is a reason teh Lite versions of Vegas, SOund Forge and DVD-A cost so much less than the real thing. A decent alternative in the 100$ area is the dumbed down version of Ulead's DVD authoring program. It is less than 100$ and my luddite neighbour loves it (she is not the most technically adept person in the world).

Please don't start flaming me, all I am doing is offering a suggestion as to why you are having these problems.

Hi Peter XI!

I Still have problems burning with DVD-A2 I think that my SONY (OEM) burner is the problemo or the media that I have... I have to try as many as possible..

The Firmware of my DVD burner has not been update so, I can not update the sucker to see if that helps..If I can't fix this problemo than I'll leave the Authoring to someona else!! Or...! I'm just gonna do video with a MAC...lol Final Cut Express HD and DVD Studio 3...or I Movie HD and I DVD 5

I like to edit videos with Vegas...FAST!!
Avid is too slow, with all the OMF convertions etc...

I've gotten into all this troble because I'm gonna edit videos for my Church and also for some extra $$$

Thanx for the lecture, AND for replying!!

PS: Peter! I also build PCs on the side..;-)
I use Steinberg's CUBASE SX3 for music and NUENDO 3 For media..
