Subject:More Clickling and Stuttering on Acid 4

I have recently experienced a stuttering effect when ever I playback an audio track on Acid and WMP10. This happens in Acid all the time and on WMP10 when ever I have the visualization screen turned on. I here a random number of clicks and stuttering. In Windows Task Bar my CPU usuage jumps between 70% to 100% while my PF Usage stays steady at around 220mb while this is happening. I have 512 of ram. Today while playing WP10 my sound card acquired a mind of its own by jumping from 44.1Khz to 24 and 22 Khz. Consequently WP10 played at the wrong speed when I tried to put it back at 44.1khz. It’s now back OK at 44.1 but I don’t understand why?!?! I have a Wami Rack 192L which is up to date. Is something mucking about with my clock speed? How do I get it to stay put. What could be causing the noise! I don’t think its Acid as it’s happening on WMP10 as well. I would welcome some feedback on this please!
Peter.

Are you using the ESI E-WDM drivers? Perhaps you have the latency set too low. The fact that your CPU is maxing out at 100% is certainly not a good thing. How fast a processor do you have?

I have an M-Audio Firewire 410 and it jumps sample frequencies like that too. I don’t think Windows XP handles outboard audio devices very well. Make sure you turn off your system sounds. Sometimes this is the cause of the sample rate jumping.

Adding to what JohnnyRoy said, if your audio interface lets you unlock the sample rate (which it probably does), try that. Sometimes locking the sample rate can cause problems.
