Subject:newbie rewire question about acid 5 and reason 2.5

I am using Propellerheads Reason 2.5 and Sony Acid Pro 5.0

OK, this is my first stab at using rewire. I have always liked acid's
sequencer, and want to set it up as a rewire mixer, and use reason
along with.

I did as the steps suggest. First opened Acid, went to Insert-> Soft
Synth.

Then to Rewire Preferences. It says I will see a bunch of Reason
devices in the list, but I see NOTHING. Am I doing something wrong? Do
I need to setup Reason with something ahead of time?

If anyone has any suggestions, I would love to hear them. SOrry if this
was already posted, did a search and saw nothing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

So you want to use ACID as a ReWire host? Did you see Propellerheads' Web site yet? (You have to register for some dumb reason, but it's free.)

Thanks for the quick response. Yes, I frequent that site, posted over there, and someone said to post in the Acid forums instead (as it sounded like an issue with Acid).

I followed the tutorial, and here is the part I am having problems with:

Activating ReWire channels

ReWire2 supports streaming of 256 audio channels. Reason has 64 audio channels available. In ACID, you can specify which of the available channels you want to use:

1. Pull down the Insert menu and select "Soft Synth..."
The Soft Synth Chooser dialog opens.

2. Click the "ReWire Devices" tab.
All installed ReWire-compatible applications are shown in a list. Reason has 64 ReWire audio channels available. If you click on the ReWire Preferences button you can select which ReWire apps are to be shown in this list.

--------> I see nothing in this list! The preferences doesn't show anything and the refresh button is greyed out. NOt sure why.

I have looked all over to try and find an answer, if anyone sees anything I am missing would love to hear it. Thanks!

I remember trying Reason not so long ago and didn't have any problems using ACID as a ReWire mixer. If I remember correctly, you're supposed to launch ACID, then Reason, then try inserting Reason as a soft synth.

You aren’t doing anything wrong. Reason should be listed as a ReWire device. I have Reason Adapted on my desktop and the Reason Demo on my laptop and all 64 outputs plus Mix L/Mix R are displayed in my ReWire tab in ACID Pro 5. This is very strange. I would contact Sony Tech support. Something is wrong with how things are registered on your PC.

I had a problem with SONAR once where ACID would not show up as a ReWire device. It was because I loaded ACID before SONAR. Try rebooting your PC and load ACID and insert a soft-synth and check the ReWire tab. Maybe you loaded Reason first and it set some bit that caused ACID not to see it because it was once running. It's worth a try.

Yeah, that is what I am doing. It is strange that I am not seeing it! I wonder if it has to do with installing reason first, then acid. Maybe I should try and uninstall/re-install or something with Acid first, then reason.

Thanks!

Good idea. I didn't restart after loading Acid last nite, that could very well be it. I will try that.

I wonder if it is also because I installed Reason first, then installed Acid. Should I uninstall/reinstall in a different order (Acid then Reason)??

Thanks for the help!

I know I had ACID installed first because I don’t really use Reason. I got the Adapted version with my M-Audio card and just installed it to see what it was all about. So ACID was on my PC long before Reason. I’m not sure if uninstalling would have any effect but it’s worth a try if all else fails.

Good idea. I will try restarting first, but if all else fails, will reinstall. Thanks again!

Restarting didn't help the situation. Other than reinstalling, anyone have any other ideas?

OK, found the answer. Had to uninstall Reason and then reinstall. Didn't have to do anything with Acid.

Hope that helps anyone else having this problem,
DJ MJ
