Subject:Help, I'm new to Sound Forge 7.0

I have Sound Forge 7.0 and what I'm trying to do is to take off lyrics off of music so there will only be the instrumentals. I was wondering if anyone could teach me or help me with the basics of this program.

Any help is appreciated, Thanks!

Try Process -> Channel Converter, and select the Stereo to Stereo - Vocal Cut preset.

Then prepare to be disappointed because remvong vocals from a mix is pretty impossible.

Also, this topic gets brought up on this forum at least once a week. If you need help with something else in SF, you may want to check the Knowledge Base and the Forum archives. If you don't find your answer, then feel free to ask away.

You can search the archives for the reasons but it basically boils down to two problems.

The vocal bandwidth overlaps with other instruments, so you can just notch out a band without removing some instruments.

Most vocal removers just remove eveything that is panned dead center, however decent reverbs are stereo processes, so the reverb will still remain in the stereo channel. Also, some instruments are generally panned dead center, so they will also get removed. And, not all of the vocals are panned dead center.

You can get into some more elaborate schemes where you just notch out a portion of the mono channel, but you will probably not be satisfied with the results.

Try it and see.

It helps if the song you are trying to remove the vocals from is mostly high-end and low-end with no mid-range...heh...
