Subject:License Agreement Clarification

I know this has sort of been answered in a number of posts prior to this one, but no one (that I've seen) has asked specifically about broadcast rights:

I work for a media design company and I'm trying to figure out if the Loops purchased directly from Sony are OK to use in a song I'm creating for a commercial that will air in local markets. I understand that 3rd party loops will have their own legalese attached, so I'm only concerned with Sony Loops at this time.

We just want to be absolutely certain that this is legal before we go any further. Thanks for your help!

As long as you don't repackage the loops in any type of loop collection for resale, you're free and clear. Part of the allure of the Sony loop collections is that they're royalty-free for use in your own commercial projects. Using the loops for a song you're creating for a commercial is a perfect example of this.

To add to Iacobus...

Combining a loop with ANY other media is fine. So, if you used one loop in a video, that's still okay, because you're combining it with something else (in this case, video).

Be careful about consumer-level products, though. I don't know if they've changed it, but Magix (as an example) includes loops & samples that are NOT licensed for commercial use...only private. Most third-party providers have a commercial license, though. You just need to check the fine print on their readme's.

Of course, a real man makes his own material instead of using all those junky pre-fabricated loops in their music.

But, have fun either way.

Hey! What about those of us who create our own material and creatively mangle canned material? :)
