Vegas crashing on P4 dual processor 2.ghz!

This is bizarre:

Pentium 4 dual processor, gig of RAM
Medea SCSI RAID fot media. All other media drives SCSI.
Veg Project files saved to same drive as Vegas/OS (same as other PC)
TEMP/Pre-renders happen on physically searate drive
* PC contians Matrox RT X1000/Premiere Pro but I am not using the Matrox card at all.

This worked before.

All I am doing is using PAN/CROP and dissolves between about 80 scanned photos on my timeline with single music track.

Project keeps crashing again and again. Did a defrag of the RAID, didn't help.

Any ideas?

You can have duel P4's? Wow. Didn't know that.

Does it crash when you do't do pan/crop?

dual processors, I meant. Also, it is a 2.8, not a 2. ghz.

Sorry for the misunderstanding, too much abbreviate-speak.

No it hasn't ever been a regular crasher with Vegas, though it does crash regularly when running Premiere Pro 1.5 BUT that is normal for Adobe Premeiere. I have used versions 5.0, 5.1, 6, 6.5, Pro 1 and Pro 1.5, all of which crash constantly. You learn to live with it.

COuld it be the scanned pictures are too big and are straining Vegas's ability to preview in real time?

pb, you may well have a corrupt file/ pic in there somewhere...happened to me once...only time Vegas has ever crashed on me for that matter...happen to creash at the same place by any chance?

I'll check that. Thanks! Never would have occurred to me. You're right -- Vegas generally doesn't crash (which is just one of the reasons I like it so much)

I'm guessing your using p4 xeons? if so, do you have hyperthreading enabled?

try opening up your pics in windows explore (or previewing htem). If you can't they're dead.

My wife is the one who is crashing endlessly. It crashes almost every time she deletes a key frame marker. Weird, eh?

When she reopens the project she gets the message that this is an auto recovered file and must be saved under a new name pronto.

I am at my wits' end and totally fed up with this 4 hour job that has alreadt taken up 8 hours.

Anyone ever had this delete key frame = crash issue?
