Subject:Roland PC160A - Midi Controller

I am having real trouble getting this to control my sounds. I am sure it works as I have used it before, but was using more samples. Now I would like to record some basslines. I have the VSTI's but not the control. The small screen keyboard works the sounds but I just can't get this external to control. I haven't used for ages and can't remember if I need drivers for this. Extensive net searches found no drivers for this keyboard. It is plugged in to a delta soundcard. When I check midi preferences for external controllers, do I look for the soundcard or the keyboard. Very confused! Sorry for probably inane questions, but I am not used to midi. Thanks for all help. Using Acid PRO 5

Greg, In the preferences you want to look for the sound card. That’s the MIDI interface that you are enabling regardless of what keyboard you plug into it. Also make sure that Options > Enable Real-Time MIDI is enabled. If it’s not, you will not be able to play your soft-synth in real-time. Finally, make sure the soft-synth bus has the focus. Click on the name just to be sure. This is how you can play different soft-synths from the same keyboard. Highlight their bus and they will receive the incoming MIDI data. It goes without saying that your MIDI keyboard controller should be transmitting on channel 1 throughout all this (or the same channel that the soft-synth is listening to if you changed it from 1 or omni).

If it doesn’t work, tell us how far you got and ask more questions.
