Which version of ACID?

Windows Me is infamous for its instability. It could be anything. Have you consulted the KB on this issue?

Do you have anything else running in the background while ACID is running? (In a nutshell: Don't have anything running other than other apps like Sound Forge—only stuff related to your audio/music making.)

The version which I am attempting to use is 4.0.0.446. Note, I previously was using 4.0 build 215, but anytime I tried to perform playback, it would say:

This prompted me to upgrade to build 446, and now the program won't even open.

By KB, I believe you are talking about knowledge base. if so, I have not directly consulted them, but I have ran searches and skimmed through their information.v

I have things like pop up blockers, yahoo instant messenger, systray, rundll32, etc... running in the background. Should I just go through and control - alt- delete them?

BTW thnx for replying.

Yes, try and use the three finger salute. (CTRL+ALT+DELETE) DO NOT "end task" explorer or systray; everything else is fair game.

If that doesn't work, try also completely uninstalling ACID and then only install the update (which actually also acts as a full version; just be sure to have your serial key handy).

(And you're welcome.) :)

Okay. I shut down everything other than explorer and systray. I tried to open acid, and the logo stalled on the middle of my screen for a few minutes before ultimately showing the same exact message as before. Basically the only difference closing everything else made was slowing down the appearence of the error message.

I have also tried deleting the original acid and running the update alone (i ahd no idea it was also a full version, but i found out by luck) but I still encountered the same error.

I read through the knowledge base link that you posted where the numerous reasons for kernell32.dll error were listed. I must admit that my computer is guilty to a number of those reasons, mainly being too hot because of a half way functioning fan. The inside of my computer, not even mentioning the fan, has not been thoroughly cleaned in years. I assume that this has cause the heat to rise significantly.

As of now, I am running the maintenace wizard, which I was directed to do at the kb. after this is complete and I try again, whether acid works or not, I wil buy something to rid my computer of dust. thnx again for your help, and I will be back in this thread to post what happens next.

I am using soundblaster 16. (I know I'm a little old school, but hey) But I do have another soundcard (Aureal Vortex... I forget the full name) Do you think I should try switching out soundcards?

What processor speed is an AMD K6? Isn’t that like a Pentium II 450MHz? I don’t know about ACID 4 but ACID 5 requires and 800Mhz processor an 256MB of memory at a minimum. Has ACID 4 ever run on this PC before or are you just trying it for the first time? Your specs may be too low (although I’m sure ACID 4’s specs were lower too) Also, make sure you have the latest drivers for your soundcard.
