slow frame rate with cineform

I'm only able to get between 9-11 fps when previewing footage from an fx1 that's been converted to cineform avi at the medium setting. Shouldn't I be able to get a better frame rate? (By the way, this is just one track of video with no editing yet.) I'm using the HDV 1080 setting and using Preview (auto). I've checked all the obvious settings in Vegas and on my computer - although apparently I'm missing something... Here's what I'm using:

Vegas 5.0d
pentium 4 3.02 ht
1 meg ram
matrox G550

Thanks for any help or ideas,

Bryce

Yeah, you should be seeing full framerate on that speed of a machine. Do you have Virus protection enabled? If so, kill it. That's the first place to look, background apps. Project properties set correctly?
What about DMA? Enabled? No FX on track? Project? Media?

Make sure your project is set to the HDV 1080 60i project template. Set your video preview window to Preview/Auto, and size it to HALF HDV frame size. What framerate do you typically get in a cuts-only scenario?

One other question since we're interested in this: You plan to deliver your finished HDV-shot project as: (what?)

One last: Sony HDV shot material edited in Vegas and mastered onto HDCAM is killer. If you have a legit HDV project that you need to deliver on HDCAM, I would like to hear from you, and I can perhaps help you with the mastering part of the equation (email me at dr.dropoutATSYMBOLsonypictures.com)

In a cuts only situation with preview window at preview/auto full size I can get 25 fps but sometimes it drops down for a few frames. I had to tweak the monitor to 1920x1440 (effectively making the window bigger than the monitor).
With Simulate Aspect Ratio ON we do get bad aliasing, much the same happens with PAL DV25 BTW.

Thanks for the help. I double checked everything you guys mentioned, but still no change. I finally stumbed on to something that did make a difference though - the color quality setting in my computers display properties has been set at 32 bit. I changed it to 16 bit and the frame rate on HDV got up to 29.97 - unless the shot had a lot of movement in it, then it would drop down to 18 fps or so. The strange thing is that on DV projects, where i've always had no problem getting 29.97 fps, it drops down to about 21 fps (at 16 bit color quality) compared to full frame rate at 32 bit color quality. Is that normal??

In reply to SonyEPM, the final project will be delivered on WMV and DVD. Thanks for the offer on HDCAM mastering - I would definitely like to check that out on a future project.
