Subject:Have I missed this little gem all along? Or is it new in 5?

The mouse scroll wheel is active wherever the cursor happens to be.
No more clicking inside of a window to have the scroll wheel active in that particular window.
Cursor on the timeline, the scroll wheel controls the zoom.
Cursor is in the explorer, the scroll wheel controls the file scrolling.
Cursor is on the sliders, the scroll wheel controls the levels.
Very nice! Very slick!

It's been there as well as Vegas Mario. :-) and you know if you push the scroll button down, this allows you to use the verticle and horizontal scroll bars with the mouse.

It used to be that you had to acquire focus before using the mouse wheel for a certain task, especially with adjusting the overall project tempo. Nice to see it's back in action. :)

Thanks for that heads-up, Mario!

Yep Acid devellopers knew how our PC wheeled mice could kick the ass off Mac's nice but stupid mono-buttoned one.

Doesn't work with mine... How did you configure your mouse ? Mine is a Logitech, scroll-push configured for "Double Clic"... Any special tweaks to do this ?

Nope, it's standard MS scroll wheel behavior. Just click the scroll wheel down in the middle of the track area and you should get a 4 way arrow as you would on web pages that are wider and longer than the view area.

You may have the Logitec software getting in the way. I never install the third party (or even MS Intellimouse) software, Windows always has native drivers but then I haven't used anything but standard wheel mice.

Ow I see... Logitech supports this 4 arrow tool too. But I don't think mD was talking about that one... Did you ?

I don't know about MD, but this was the one I had mentioned.

Ow so... It's not that easy to zoom vertically... I've always needed this "Alt+Wheel" = Zoom vertically. That would be logical.

MJ is right; any software meant for an input device like Logitech's or Microsoft's mice can wreak a little havoc. Try shutting the software down temporarily to see if that helps. (I don't remember Microsoft's executable, but if I remember correctly, Logitech's has "em_exec" in its title.)
