Hey - Need some help - AGAIN. Where are my saviours, Chienworks or rraud? So I finally got some of the basics down and can record (in real time unfortunately) the lecture that is captured on my minidisk to my pc and then convert the wav to an mp3. Now, say I have a one hour lecture and I want it to be divided into four tracks - how can I do that? I am sure that by now you are used to my inexperience, but to reiterate, please use layman's terms. Also, I need to insert a code in the middle of the lecture (regs require that we make sure attorneys actually listen to these lectures). How can I go about doing this? Should I record that on a minidisc, import to pc and then cut and paste it into the lecture? Thank you! |

I don't know if you've got the full version of Sound Forge or just the Studio version. In the full version there's a tool called "Extract regions" which is really handy. However, since you've only got four tracks i'll give you some lower level instructions that work for either version. First, put in markers where you want the tracks to start, including the beginning of the recording. Add another marker at the end for good measure. Now, double-click between the first two markers to highlight that section. Press Ctrl-C to copy, Ctrl-E to paste to a new file. Save this new file as you wish, either WAV or MP3 or whatever. Go back to the original file and repeat the double-click, copy, paste, and save with each of the other three sections. You'll be done in no time. If you do have the full version you can convert the Markers to Regions (under the Special menu), then use Extract Retions (under the Tools menu) to automatically save each piece as a new WAV file. However, if you want MP3s in the end then you'll have to open up each of the new WAV files and resave them anyway, so the first method may be just as easy for you. |

I did it! Amazing! You really are such a huge help. I would still be wondering if I could import files to my PC if it wasn't for you! Thanks for holding my hand! Much appreciated and obliged. Though audio editting is not my forte and will never be, my life/job is now a lot easier. |
