Subject:How to assign sounds to the keyboard?

With AcidPro 4.0, can I assign, for example, a kick to the #1 key, a snare to #2, and a hi hat to #3? Then play them like drum pads on a drum machine?

That would make life so much easier, because I could create patterns without having to go through the pains of placing, playing, and moving each individual sound file.

Also (yes, I'm an extremely ignorant newbie with this software) how do I save individual samples? Like if I have sampled a really pounding kick, or even a pattern, is there a way to save it in the database so that I could use it in another song?

Thanks in advance and I apologize for my ignorance with this software.

Take a look at this thread about a mouse keyboard that will allow you to “play” your PC keyboard. Then get a drum machine VSTi to play. There are even some free ones out there if you search for them.

You could also build a drum tracks in ACID Pro 5.0 by using the Y key to drop one-shots in real-time as the track plays.

Adding to what JohnnyRoy mentioned, using SHIFT+Y will drop anything that's copied to the clipboard, so you can copy portions of a Loop, Beatmapped, or MIDI track and drop them in real time as well.

You may also copy and paste multiple events on multiple tracks in this manner. (However, you are only allowed to drop One-shots on one track at a time using just Y.)

i believe that whole "Y-key" thing is only in AP 5 not acid 4.

MIDI-OX has a PC keyboard to MIDI feature along with many other valuable functions such as sysex dumping/saving/loading, data mapping, port monitors, filters, virtual MIDI routing (MIDI-Yoke), etc. and it's free.
