Hi All, Question: Im pretty much a newbie but I have now a complete 4 minute Acid Beat! Yeh! 4 mono tracks: kick, snare, clap and hihat. Now, the PROBLEM which I am anticipating is: I want to take these 4 files and save them individually as wav or Aiff(?) and import them into my engineer's professional Protools setup. He does NOT have Acid so I will have to import the 4 straight audio files to his Protools. (I want them separate files so they can be individual mixed, you know) I don't want to do my song and add all the other insruments on my non-pro home setup. Now, Im thinking, the 4 files won't be in proper TIMING because of subtle time differences in transferring my CD files to his compuiter, right? Even when they are all lined up Im worried they just won't be in time. Is there any trick to transferring these as audio files and having them in perfect timing? ps ive never done Midi. this isnt midi. pls , any ideas wold be appreciated. Dave |

Dave, In ACID, you can use File > Render As... and check the option that says, “Save each track as a separate file”. This will render each track separately so you can import it into ProTools as individual tracks. As for the timing issues, ACID will imbed the tempo and key information in the files, so if ProTools can recognize this information, it will be in perfect sync. I don’t have ProTools so I can’t say for sure if it’s capable of this. I know SONAR and Sony Vegas are so I’d imaging ProTools should too. ~jr |

Hi Johnny and all, Well, I dont get that message "select tracks as individual" . where do you see that message? So what I did was render each of the 4 tracks individually - one at a time. (1 clap, 1 kick , snare, 1 hihat) I put them on 3 CDs - one cd is data file form, one is a acd-zip folder and one is basic Wave files. Tonite I go to the MAC Protools studio and try to import them into Protools. THIS should be interesting!!!! btw, I tested importing them into Cakewalk Home Studio one at a time and it actually worked and they are in sync!!! But this maneuver did not involve transferring to and from CD, and pc to Mac, etc. thanks. |

> Well, I dont get that message "select tracks as individual" . where do you see that message? In the File > Render As... dialog box. It’s the fourth checkbox at the bottom of the dialog. [_] Save project as path reference in redered media [_] Render loop region only [_] Save project markers with media [X] Save each track as a separate file [_] Stretch video to fill output frame [_] Fast video resizing The last two will be grayed out if there is no video in your project. The Save each track as a separate file option will save one wave file for everytrack in your project and name them Track 01 Track Name, Track 02 Track name (where Track Name is the name/label on each track). All of the tracks will be the exact same length so just drop them in the new application and they should be in perfect sync. ~jr |

i have worked this way before, exporting tracks as wav files and importing them in Pro Tools. if you save the tracks in Acid using the Render As option (as JohnnyRoy described), they will be perfectly aligned once you import them in PT. i have mixed an entire album this way now, and not once did i run into syncing problems within the Pro Tools application itself. the Pro Tools i'm using is on a windows pc tho, which in turn syncs to the rest of my studio. so i don't know if Pro Tools for the Mac can handle wav files. but i would be very surprised if it couldn't. |

Pro tools will handle .wav. But you cannot use mixed media with protools. For example, aiff and wav in the same session. That is why protools always has you convert these files if you try to import them. When you start a new session, just make sure you set it up for .wav and all should be good. |

Just to add to the bedlam, ACID can export as AIFF if the need arises. (Use the method as JohnnyRoy mentioned.) :) Iacobus ------- RodelWorks - Original Music for the Unafraid Buy Instant ACID by JohnnyRoy and mD! Now! mD at ACIDplanet |
