I just bought Acid Music Studio after enjoying the free program, Acid XPress 5.0. Unfortunately, I've found that with this full program, I can no longer cut, move or paint tracks wherever I want. Cutting/Erasing: It will only erase in blocks; specifically, the blocks of music between beat-markers. You can't cut between beat markers, or erase portions of any size. Moving: when you drag events, they "skip" from beat marker to beat marker with no way to settle them in between if you so wish. Painting: Again, you can only paint in blocks, and only between beat markers. This is extremely frustrating because a) being erase/move/paint wherever you please is so basic; and b) the FREE program allows you to perform all of these functions with utmost precision wherever you want, so why not the program that costs $70? It makes no sense. This makes the program practically useless to me. What good are all the effects or mash-up abilities when I can't even paint things in where I want? If anyone understands what I'm describing here, advice would be much appreciated. Maybe there is a simple key combination or something that will allow me to do what I want within beat markers. However, I have a feeling this is just the way it is. |

If you zoom in on the timeline (up-arrow, or mouse-wheel up), the “blocks” will get smaller and smaller giving you a finer level of placement while still keeping you on a musical boundary. If you really want to paint anywhere you want, press F8 to disable snapping. You can now start and stop painting anywhere on the track. Press F8 again to re-enable snapping. ~jr |
