How long does it take now? Acid takes a long time to start with the Media Manger active but haven't noticed any effect on Windows itself.

I haven't noticed any difference in shutdown/startup with Windows.

i actually think it's related to Net framework SP 1.1 qhich is required for WIn XP SP2 support.

I managed to find a Windows XP SP1 installer, and hopefully that'll make a difference. as I understand it i do NOT need to install the net framework 1.1 update for acid to function right?

anyway shutdown takes 10 seconds longer and boot up takes 10 seconds longer also.,

My shitty laptop reboots and is fully into the os before the Windows XP sign has even come up on my daw boot.:(

When freshly installed, super fast. with acid and net framework, the slowdown. I can't pin it to net or acid itself without a full reinstall, but it's one of those two.

Hmm. I do have the .NET 1.1 update as well, but I haven't noticed any slowdown.

You might want to employ a brute force method and format and reinstall just to see where things are going wrong. It almost sounds like something got horked a little.

Is anyone else having a similar problem?

I never noticed a slowdown.
Something around 10 seconds I definitely wouldn've noticed.

It sounds like a registry problem. I stronglt suggest that you get some sort of registry optimizer (like the one from SYSTWEAK or Nortons). That will eliminate the system hangs, etc. you are experiencing. Also, defragging your hardrive helps a lot.

In addition, if you expect great performance out of your machine when using audio programs, you need to fine tune it. Turning off all of those memory hogging background apps in XP will gratly improve performance.
