If they are not inkjet printable they are worthless to me.

I don't care what you say. I am now a Ritek Bigot and I will not cheat and try other brands. Never. Wouldn't be right.

I have so far made 6 coasters out of 20 Riteks from a 50 sprindle.

Prices here are $29 for Ritek $60 for Taiyo Yuden and $70 for Maxell.

$19.99 for 509, that's 40c ea. Good price for Best Buy. What speed?

On the other hand, I refilled with the very good Ritek G05 8x inkjet-printable DVD-R recently for 37 cents each (@100), Supermediastore this time, there are many others.

If only the DL discs would get down to these prices :)

Are you in Canada? If so, you can get Verbatim 8x +/- R inkjet printable from Staples for $58.00/50 You must, however, wait two or three weeks because these are "special order".

Peter
Thanks for the tip but I just got my weekly newsletter from NCIX.com (you might want to sign up for it)

Ritek (not the printable) are on sale for $25.99 for 50

Taiyo yuden $39.99 for 50 but only for (+)

Optodisk are $5.99 for 25

But Maxell are still $70.99

And Verbatum are $51.25 (not on sale.)

I tried Ritek based on recommendaitons in this forum. Last night I posted a thread asking about what sounded like a hardware problem. Odd, since I've used the drive in question to successfully burn 100's of DVD's without issue. Then yesterday two bad ones in a row. Yep, it was the media, Ritek. Upon very close examination some minor imperfections were seen on blank media in the remaining 22 I still had. Same location center relative to the edge on the discs that "went bad", actually, it seems more logical they WERE BAD to begin with.

Point being you can get bad media regardless of brand and I HATE bulk 50 or 100 spindles, they're the worst.

Weren't there reports recently about fake Ritek and other brand discs?

Before panning Brand X or Disc X, please remember that the DRIVE firmware version is really important for compatibility with different media.

There are frequent updates.
