Subject:ASIO driver selection breaks mp3 playing in Winamp

When I switched to the ASIO drivers, all the sudden I couldn't open up MP3s in WinAmp or other similar apps. Have to change back to Windows Sound Mapper, or whatever it is. This is kind of annoying, as I can't listen to what I've just rendered in ACID on my machine without closing out ACID sometimes. Any workarounds? Why does the sound driver selection in ACID affect what Winamp does? Thanks Rick |

> Why does the sound driver selection in ACID affect what Winamp does? I would ask on the Winamp forum. I use Musicmatch Jukebox and have no problems at all with my ASIO drivers interfering. This is sounds like it might be a Winamp problem. ~jr |

ASIO drivers are not a shareable driver model. When you set ACID to use the ASIO driver for your hardware, the ASIO driver will not permit another app to access the hardware. What version of ACID are you using? What audio hardware are you using? Peter |

Don't know if it's related - seems like it. I use an EMU 1820M. The EMU Mixer allows you to setup multiple ASIO channels for use with your apps. I use it all the time, I have SONAR4, Winamp, CoolEdit 2000 etc. all open and using ASIO at the same time. ACID5 is a different story. I have an EMU ASIO bus setup called "ACID" and ACID5 is setup to use that. OK, great. If I fire up Winamp - ACID5 no longer plays. I have to reboot or restart the EMU mixer. ACID5 is the only app that has this issue with 'sharing' the EMU mixer. Don't know if I explained this well enough but there it is. |

Peter, I'm using ACID Pro 5 and Winamp 5.04. Soundcard is Echo Indigo I/O. Thanks, Eric |
