Subject:Recording over takes - please allow it!

I like to name my own takes when recording. Sometimes I have a totally duff one. I delete it from the track view and record it. However at the moment ACID will not give me the option to record over an existing track that is NOT in the project. I think it should. Why does ACID make me keep a track I know is duff? What's the take on this?

You’re not alone on that one. I get tired of deleting files manually from the filesystem just so ACID can reuse the name. I agree that if I want to record over a take and its not part of the project, ACID should ask “file already exists, are you sure?” and just allow it if I say Yes.

My workaround for this one is naming files Verse 1-1-1a, Verse 1-1-2a, etc... It's a pain but it works well.. Except now, my 160Gb HDD is full ^^.

My workaround has been to get into the habit of ALL Takes being throwaway. So if I like a Take, I still do a Chop-to-New and give it its permanent name. Since there is no pre-roll for recording, I ALWAYS have to chop the “head of silence” off of a take anyway so even good takes need editing in ACID. :( This way I can delete everything in the directory that has a “Record Take” in the name and be confident that I’m not throwing anything away that I need. It seems to be working well.

That's pretty much my workflow. I record first, then chop 'n bounce everything down with permanent names. Once I'm done, I can discard the original takes.
