OT: How to access files on 2nd HD

usman152008 wrote on 2/6/2005, 12:01 PM
I have 2 harddrives. My files are on 2nd drive. I try to open the file by going through E:\DocsandSettings\"account name", but it gives me a message:
E:\DocsandSettings\"account name" is not accessible. Access is Denied.
I dont have any password on it. Other accounts on that drive are openable. What is the situation here? I need help fast because my time is limited. Thanks

you don't have access to the account. Just like it says. You need to go into admin user & give everyone access to that acount. Simple.

Try right-clicking the folder and allow sharing and allow users to change files.

How about some more information?

When did this start?
Have you been able to access the folder before?
Did you change anything which stopped you from accessing the folder?
Is this a newly installed hard drive?

Did you upgrade to XP like dmcknight's link mentions?

What happened when you tried to share the folder?

I fixed it through this website:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/810881
First step is wrong because there in no such option as "Use simple file sharing (Recommended)" in folders menu. So i skipped that and went ahead anyways. From step 2-6, they forgot to mention that you have to be in safe mode to see the "Security" tab. So i wnt in safe mode and followd those steps and still, after fixing the peoblem, the folder was only accessible in Safe mode. So i copied the files to my desktop and exit safe mode. Thanks you guys for help.

you have administrator right, correct (in windows admin is just another. You can take away their rights)
