Hey what up y'all? I just wanted to ask a couple questions. I am trying to make a Christian Rap CD. I have about 4 or 5 songs written that I also have made beats to on my keyboard. I have ACID Music Studio 5.0 as well as a MIDI to USB cable that I use to connect my keyboard to my computer. The Keyboard has about 500 Instrument voices on it which is awesome. The problem comes in that the software only has the General MIDI voices. I want to be able to recreate my songs professionally on my computer using the software. However I can't b/c the instrument voices that I need cannot be found on my computer. I was wondering where I can download Instrument Voices in DLS format or a way that i can transfer my instrument voices from my keyboard to my computer. See the problem is that when u record something using MIDI it only records the notes and not the Instrument voice that the notes were played in. The Instrument Voices that are included with General Midi suck really bad so if anybody could give me some pointers on where and how to get new ones that would ge great. |

You have two options using ACID Music Studio: You could use the instrument voices on your keyboard by routing the audio outputs from your keyboard to the audio inputs of your computer’s sound card and create an analog recording of your performance. I would only do this at the very end when you’re ready to render your song. ACID would be feeding the MIDI data out to your keyboard and the audio from your keyboard would be fed back into ACID. The second option is to look for software like AWave Studio that converts SoundFonts to DLS format and use those with the DLS Soft Synth. Unfortunately, this software costs more than ACID Music Studio (although you could use it in demo mode for a while). There aren’t very many DLS libraries around but there are 1000’s of free SoundFont libraries that can be converted to DLS format so converting is the only approach. One final option is to purchase ACID Pro, which will allow you to use VSTi soft synths. ACID Pro comes with a Hammond B3 (NI B4), Yamaha DX7 (NI FM7), and Sequential Circuits Prophet 5 (NI Pro-53) emulator. You can add an impressive array of VSTi soft synths to emulate grand pianos, orchestra’s etc. There are also a lot of good free VSTi soft synths available. ~jr |
