Subject:problematic vst plugins? in this case refx vanguard.

This is basically my favourite vsti synth in the world. i am having problems with the latest version of it and acid 5. This is the guts of the email I sent to refx:

-----"There is an anooying problem with Acid Pro 5 and Vanguard 1.11.

The good news is it doesn't actually crash.

basicallly, it's realy bizarre. the VOLUME slider of the track in acid that has vanguard inserted, slows down and sometimes doesn't respond. I am talking at even 5% cpu load. it starts jumping, not little jumps, but maybe 10db at a time or more....remember I am taking about the acid channel volume slider itself, nothing to do with the vanguard gui...weird! The potential issue is of course, volume automation. have you confirmed this yourself with acid pro 5 demo?
I hope it's a supported host! "------

His response was basically that he doesn't have acid, and if it works in other hosts it should work right in that too. I asked him to download the demo or ask Sony for an nfr, but his basic argument is that any host that supports the vst spec properly should work, so it may actually be a bug in vanguard and in that case it will get fixed.

i am not very hopeful.

Also, as i reported once before, the omhforce vst delay wont sync in acid, or even let you change the tempo on the delay's gui, it's just stuck at 120!

so my question is, what happens in these cases? what if it's not the developer's fault but acid's? does sony look into "problem plugin" issues?

Will have a look see.

However, consider what they guys told you:

>>his basic argument is that any host that supports the vst spec properly should work,

This says : it is not their problem to test.

I will see if I can get a copy of this plug from these guys. If not, then I will have to leave it to them. (I don't test against demos. If they expect us to test for them, then they have better cough up a full license.) If you contact them again, have them contact me if they have a problem.
