Is it possible to take an audio trac that had its recording level set to high and make the high volumn or distortion lower to improve the quality using Sound Forge software? |

Highly unlikely. That said, though you might want to try the Sony Noise Reduction plugin, which has a clipped peak restoration plugin tool, which I have used it to do as you described. It probably won't elliminate it completely, but it can sometimes definately improve it, depending on how bad the distortion is. Distortion is one the hardest things to elliminate though once it's there. That clip plug-in has totally saved some of my older tape 4 track recordings. If there were ever a better restorative audio product, I haven't seen it. Expensive, but worth the price when you realize what all you get with it. The Noise Reduction plug-in is almost perfect. I have a little gripe about tonal changes sometime, but that may just be from my lack of knowledge for the controls. I mostly find a preset that's close and then tweak from there, having no idea about the methodology behind what I'm doing other than "make buzz go away." |
