Why does the acid50.exe process continue to run after I exit the application?
could it have anything to do with this quote from SonyPCH?:
"A process that can't be shut down with these tools indicated that a driver has failed to return or time out on a IOCTL request. Depending on how well the driver followed the rules, it should time out with in a reasonable amount of time, however, as long as the driver refuses to return on an i/o request, the process that made the call cannot have its process(s) killed as that could result in a kernel level crash."

Yep, that could very well be. Acid50.exe should totally unload once you exit the app. Something is going wrong if its not unloading. The audio drivers are the first place I’d suspect of causing this.

Yes, this is very possible.

What audio hardware are you using?

What MIDI hardware are you using?

I use an Echo Mia MIDI with their version 6.08 asio driver. I have an Evolution MK-249C MIDI controller attached to the Mia. But I don't have the controller enabled in ACID MIDI preferences because I prefer to use it in FL Studio VSTi. As a matter of fact, the problem only occurs when FL Studio VSTi is inserted in ACID and the controller is enabled in FL Studio. However, if I use Cubase instead of ACID, the problem doesn't occur so it's likely that it's an ACID problem.

So you don't have any MIDI ports enabled in ACID? (MIDI Prefs page)

No MIDI ports enabled.

The problem doesn't happen if FLStudio is not inserted into ACID as a VSTi?

Are you using the single port or multi port FLStudio VSTi?

What version of FStudio (5.0 or 5.01, or earlier) are you using?

"The problem doesn't happen if FLStudio is not inserted into ACID as a VSTi?"

Correct

"Are you using the single port or multi port FLStudio VSTi?"

Multi - I guess your next question will be; does it happen with the single port VSTi? I'll check tonight and get back to you.

"What version of FStudio (5.0 or 5.01, or earlier) are you using?"

5.01

Yes it happens with the single port VSTi as well.

At least I can end the process in Task Manager, so it's no drama. It's still a bug none the less.

SInce it doesn't happen when FLStudio is not used, have you contacted Imageline? We have seen many problems with FLStudio 5, but have no repro with earlier versions. We don't see problems with other VSTi's - multibused or not.

Have you tried FLStudio ReWired to ACID vs using as a VSTi?

We are looking, but so far the conclusion is something is wrong with FLStudio 5.0

"We are looking, but so far the conclusion is something is wrong with FLStudio 5.0"

And yet it's fine in Cubase. But then Cubase was created by a developer who should know how to implement VST(i).

I will direct ImageLine to this thread and see what they have to say.

Thanks.

I would bet that Imageline only tests with Cubase/Nuendo.

Why? Because Steiberg does not documment how to write a VSTi host. The document writing plugins.

I am not saying we are not looking into this, but again, FL 4.x does not have any problems. This can only lead me to believe that something is broken with how FL 5 does things.

Does any other VSTi cause the same problem for you?

"Does any other VSTi cause the same problem for you?"

I just tested them all and FL is the only one. ImageLine said it will be fixed in their next release so let's wait and see how that goes.

BTW, engaging the MIDI controller in FL was irrelevant, meaning the problem still occurs when MIDI is disabled in both programs.
