My specs: 1.8GHz PIII chip 512 MB RAM IBM T30 laptop Windows XP Pro, SP2 Acid Pro 5 Acid Pro 5 is making sounds I've never heard before when it starts to sag. Needless to say, it's annoying. OK, I've gleaned that this is directly related to the number of tracks and particularly the number of effects. I know I need to start approaching my use of effects differently, I tend to still assign them at the track and bus level, vs the assignable FX. Will work on that. But if my chip were 2.8GHz and/or my RAM were 1024MB am I likely to see a big performance boost doing things as I am now? Thanks, Eric |

I feel your pain. I have an IBM T30 with the same specs and ACID Pro 5 does not run well on it at all. I have disabled the Media Manager and it seems to be a little better but I have a P4 3.0Ghz desktop computer that I do all my music recording on. The T30 is a dog in general. Everything runs painfully slow on it. I would say upgrading to a 2.8GHz with 1GB memory would help a lot. ~jr |

What does SONY say is necessary to run ACID Pro 5? Isn't my current config like double what they require? While I'm not totally opposed to getting a new machine, I don't want to deal with all the ancillary nonsense that requires....(e.g., virus software, IE and Windows patches.) I want to make music, not fiddle with software and computers. I'll see if I can upgrade my T30. Overall, I'm very happy with it. Thanks, Eric |

Also jr, did you see the configuration the guy has in the first post on this thread? http://mediasoftware.sonypictures.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?MessageID=351880&Replies=15&Page=2 He's still having trouble with it. I'm using ASIO Echo WDM drivers with default settings. Maybe it's a driver issue? Thanks, Eric |

I have a very meager 800 MHz Pentium III with 384 MB of RAM. (I plan on upgrading very, very soon.) ACID Pro 5 seems to work fine for me even with 30+ track projects. (I use Echo's MiaMIDI ASIO drivers.) I am extremely draconian as to what's contained in my system hardware and software-wise, which I'm sure helps. Anything I can offload and assign to hardware helps out as well. (For example, instead of going with a software firewall, I use a hardware firewall. It not only takes the load off my system but provides better security as well.) I also disable ports I don't use, like the PS/2 mouse port and the parallel printer port. Laptops are not exactly top performers compared to their desktop counterparts. It sounds like you're set as far as your RAM and CPU goes. Look into other specs of the laptop, like the hard drive specs. Iacobus ------- RodelWorks - Original Music for the Unafraid Buy Instant ACID by JohnnyRoy and Me! Now! mD at ACIDplanet |
