Having trouble with my version of soundforge 4.5. Running an xp based system as thought it as time to upgrade (maybe that as stupid) but all i'm getting is 'Sound Forge not installed properly, re-install'. Having done this a number of times I am now getting brassed off. Can anyone help

I've heard that anything under 6.0 won't run on XP, for what that's worth. Wow, I remember 4.5. You really should upgrade to at least 6.0 if you're on XP. I ran 4.5 on WIN2000, but got 6.0 when I went to XP.

I'm actually right there with you, man. I still haven't installed SP2 for XP yet because I bought my PC used from a friend and no longer have the serial # for XP. The friend has since moved on, and last I heard, he hadn't found the install disk, so SP2 won't load for me because the installation thinks I'm a pirate. I guess I technically am since I don't have the serial. I hear the SF 7.0b is a little buggy with SP2 so I'm kind of leaning to ignoring the upgrades until 8.0 comes out. I stoked about SF being able to use VSTs.

My Win XP machine has Sound Forge v4.5 installed on it, no problems here although I don't use it much.

Kaos62,
You mentioned that you have tried to reinstall it a number of times. Have you tried to Uninstall it? Try that, restart your PC and then try reinstalling Forge. If you have tried that already then there's probably something wrong within the OS or Registry. A reformat, reinstall of the OS might be a good start to solving your problem.

Reformatting is pretty extreme, although that might fix the problem. I am running SF 4.5 on XP SP2 and have not yet had a problem. Make sure you get the last update for 4.5 from ftp://download.sonypictures.com/updates and grab file sfv45h.exe.

I'm just curious: what is it about 4.5 that keeps you guys locked into it without upgrading? When SF upgraded to 6, and you could do realtime file editing, I sang halleliueia. The difference between even 4.5 and 6 is stellar. I'm just wondering, I'm not commenting or razzing you.

I use SF 7 as well, however, I also still like to use CD Architect 4 for PQ editing from inside SF 4.5. That's why I still use it.

I just sometimes keep them around on my system to help answer questions in this forum, where I need to refresh my memory a little bit on an older version. So I currently have on this system with WinXP, SF4.5,5, 7,and 8. On my win2k laptop I have SF 4.5,6,7,and 8.

You already have 8? Are you a beta tester? How do they determine whether or not to use you as a beta tester? I filled out the form the same day I looged into this forum, but there isn't much info on the process. I used to beta test for Macromedia prodcuts about 8 or 9 years ago. I would love the opportunity to test drive new sound programs. I can barely wait to get my hands on them when they are released on schedule.
