Subject:Sound Forge Audio Studio free with Acid Pro 5?

In the latest issue of Computer Music, Acid Pro 5 gets reviewed (quite favorably in fact, scoring 8 out of 10). In the review the author mentions you don't only get the NI Xpress Keyboards but also a copy of Sound Forge Audio Studio with Acid 5.

Have I missed something? I got 2 discs, the "Loops for Acid" and one samples disc of my choice. But I couldn't find Sound Forge Audio Studio anywhere...

Thanks for your answers,
Zerobae

Actually, I was wondering the same thing. I saw at Musicians Friend that there was an upgrade (boxed) version that also included SF Audio Studio and I wondered why others did not receive that offer. I am still using SF 5.0 and maybe that is more powerful than Audio Studio, but it would still be nice to have a newer vesrion of SF just to see if I want to upgrade to SF 7 soon to be 8. Even though I know that Audio Studio is a "lite" version, it still might gimme some insights. I mean I know I can test drive the SF 7 demo, but I just thought it would be cool to see how the "lighter" version operates.
Sorry I was so long winded. luces

This may be some kind of promo the vendor itself makes. I've seen vendors like Musician's Friend do that before.

Lots of vendors do promos where they bundle Sony software. One of the best is Sound Forge and the Noise Reduction plug-in bundle that a lot of vendors have. It’s like getting Noise Reduction for free. It pays to shop around.

I use www.froogle.com a lot. Just type in "acid pro sound forge studio" and you’ll see some nice bundled prices.

Thanks for your replies... - it's just that in the Computer Music article it sounded like SF Audio Studio would be in a standard package like the Xpress Keyboards that are bundled with _any_ unit of Acid Pro 5.

Again...why does Sony do this? I could have bought the update for Acid, and gotten SF, for $10 less then I paid for the update alone from Sony. WHY does Sony do this? Do they need the $10?

I need the $10!

Look, I know it's a wunnerful freemarket Bushite global universe and all, but give me a break with the gouging.

Sony doesn’t do this. These are independent vendors that are offering these deals.

What Sony probably should do is not allow vendors to sell for less than the Sony upgrade price. I think that is what you’re objecting to and I agree with you. It would be nice if the upgrade price for existing customers was cheaper than any external price. Unfortunately, that’s not the case.

that is what I was referring to, the strange multi level pricing that ignores Sony's real customers, ie the people who've already PURCHASED their product.

Think if I write them a note, they'd send me a copy of SF jr or whatever it's called?

I'll try, and post their reply here...

I would call them and voice your complaint. As a customer, it is your right to let them know that you feel slighted by their pricing practices.

I had a similar incident in which after a month of its release, Sony offered customers who upgraded Vegas a free copy of Vision Series backgrounds. I upgraded the first day Vegas came out and was not offered this. I called Sony to complain and they made me the same offer and sent me the free CD’s. This is not quite the same because its not Sony offering ACID with Sound Forge Studio but I would call just the same. Let them know that you will NOT be upgrading through Sony next time because of this practice and perhaps, just perhaps, they will compensate you in some way. It’s worth a try. You have nothing to loose and at a minimum you will feel better that you had your say.

called them..after a bit of boilerplate re resellers etc..they are sending me a copy. and they were nice about it.

THAT is the service I remember SF having ..no BS about this is that and that's it.

Good way to keep customers, and i'd like to thank Theresa at Sony. increase in pay and a promotion.

Now..midi control surfaces and fix the bugs...

Sony is a company to be respected for the way they treat customers. (so was Sonic Foundry). Glad to see things haven’t changed.

Glad for you Johnp, nice you got it. Now if I was in the U.S. and able to argue in spoken English, I'd call them, too... ;-) Did Theresa or anybody else tell you more about this whole price/package policy thing?

After running it to her boss, she explained again about the reseller thing. Now she could have been (or her boss could have been) a corporate drone about it, because as I said above..it is a horrific freemarket etcetc..and Sony is a kingKong Market Maker. But my point is(was) this: SF used to be a small, for the muso/hobbyist company- one of the few who, when you had a problem with their stuff, would respond in a human way, not in a "here is the policy, screw you, it's on Page 578 of the website" way.

problem is though, and i bet we have all had it- resellers are out making $$ on this stuff, and with froogle and other discount search engines, it's too easy to just shave $10 here, bundle something else there- making the "offer" from the parent company not such a great thing. Propellerhead had this problem , still do- people eager to get reason version x were burned if they "bought too soon". and some peole got very mad about that. and some of those people saw that there were cracks available, and how much did the props lose? (BTW..no cracks here. period)

With all the rampant piracy, I would have thought that companies would have figured it out by now - that to save themselves $10, or a "bundled" piece..hell it seems much easier to just go direct all the time. And that's the model that's coming, there's some Euro companies doing it now. works.

That way, you have PAYING customers who don't have to worry that Sid and Bob got their Acid for $25 less, and received the free magic decoder ring with it.

Again, I think somebody in Madison is thinking. Now if they would just apply that thinking to getting a midi control surface going and those bugs in 5, maybe, just maybe, we'd have a little rennaisance of Acid users, like it was at the turn of the century.

and maybe the official Acid Decoder ring ...be a nice touch.

I remember buying acid 3.0 and getting sf lite (whatever it was called then) and vegas lite. It opened the world of sonic foundry right away. I was loyal almaost instantly.
