troubleshooting video capture

Hi all,
I once tried Vegas 5b. it worked fine and then a week later. I was able to capture video. Now video capture does not work. I have installed many programs (and uninstalled) in my computer. Could any of them have affected my video capture?

It does not recognize my DV camcorder connected via USB port. USB port is working fine. I tried all troubleshooting techniques in the help section. Still nothing worked.

Can somebody help me out in troubleshooting?

First, clarify what you mean by "I once tried Vegas 5b". Is this a trial you downloaded? Did you update from Vegas 5a? Are you using Windows XP with service pack 2? Are you using USB2? How much video have you downloaded in the past using a USB port(which may be problematic no matter what)? Have you actually transfered regular video from a digital tape to your PC? Or are you using a USB Harddrive? Firewire is the ideal way to transfer digital video to your PC. I'm troubleshooting your troubleshooting.
