Subject:SF7 Lost EQ and Pitch abilties???

I have Sound Forge 7.0 and just today out of the blue, I lost the ability to do many of the features!! I could do them fine before, but now when I select them on the menus absolutely NOTHING happens.

From the PROCESS menu I can no longer do...

-EQ (all 3 - Graphic, Paragraphic and Parametric)
-Smooth/Enhance
-Time Stretch

and from the EFFECTS menu I can no longer do...
-Amplitude Modulation
-Chorus
-Echo (both Multi-Tap and Simple)
-Distortion
-Dynamics (both Graphic and Multi-Band)
-Flange/Wah-Wah
-Gapper/Snipper
-Noise Gate
-Pitch Shift (Pitch Bend seems to work fine)
-Reverb
-Vibrato

I don't know what I could have maybe changed to lose these. I still have the DX plug-ins but the other ones were much more accurate, especially the EQ's - i need them back!!!

I've tried re-installing and repairing the program but it doesn't seem to work.

Does anyone know what could have happened?

any input is much appreciated, thanks!

Either someone's been moving files they shouldn't or someone has been messing with registry entries they shouldn't.

I'd recommend a full uninstall, then re-install.

But if you can verify that the three sfppack*.dlls are still in
c:\Program Files\Sony\Shared Plug-Ins\Audio\ (or wherever you've installed), you can just drag-and-drop sfppack*.dll on an open instance of Sound Forge and re-start.

If that doesn't work, email tech support.

Yes I use SP2, but that was put in ages ago therefore is irrelevant to this.

Anyways, I did a full uninstall (including picking at the registry and removing any "sony", "sonic foundry", and "sound forge" instances), then a reinstall, and this time it seems to have worked - i'm crossing my fingers.

Thanks for the input guys

a friend of mine had his registered version of Vegas 5, all was good with everything, then he went and downloaded the DEMOs of SoundForge and Acid 5, and all of a sudden his registered version of Vegas 5 took on the characteristics of a DEMO program, I cant attest to if all the demo limitations were imposed on his Vegas5, but his plugins had a slight "demo" watermark on them when he applied them and they didnt work. Had to reinstall, did you by any chance recently download any demo Sony applications?
My 2 cents,
John

I have this happen with Sony demo software, too. My installation got so whacked that I had to call Sony to reactivate my serial numbers.

I had the same problem for about 4 weeks. I don't use the Sony effects very much as I tend to use other plugins. I did the uninstall-reinstall thing as well and still had the problem so I simply let it go. Then one day - seemingly out of the blue - everything returned and seems to work, although I've only done a cursory check. If no one has a better answer, hopefully yours will return as well. I guess I should have reported this, but I thought it was unique to my machine setup.

Hi All,
I got the following via direct email from SONY tech support. Running the Migration tools.. This fixed my problem.

Response (Mike S.) - 07/14/2006 10:47 AM
Hello David,

Thank you for writing. If your effects are no longer functioning, go to Start > Programs > Sony > Utilities and run all of the Migration Tools (you don't need to run the Read Me file). This should re-initialize the plug-ins that install along with Sound Forge 7.0. If you have installed any of the XFX 1, 2, or 3 plug-ins separately from Sound Forge, you will need to uninstall the plug-ins and all Sonic Foundry and Sony Media Software applications and reinstall just the software. If you have not installed the XFX plug-ins separately and running the Migration Tools does not correct the issue, go to Add/Remove Programs in your Control Panel and uninstall Sound Forge 7.0. Go to C:\Program Files\Sony Setup and C:\Program Files\Sony and delete any Sound Forge 7.0 directories still located
here. Go to Start > Run and type regedit. Delete any Sound Forge 7.0 folders from the following locations in the Registry Editor:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Software > Sony Media Software
HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Sony Media Software

Create a new user account with administrative privileges, reboot, then log in under the new administrative account. Reinstall Sound Forge from the latest update; http://www.sonymediasoftware.com/download/step2.asp?DID=465

I hope this information is helpful. If you have follow up questions or need further assistance with this issue, please update this incident.

Sincerely,

Mike S.
