Subject:Took the plunge..where is Update, some effects don't sync and cpu meter?

Hi there, I took the plunge before and ordered Acid Pro 5.0

I can't believe there still isn't a cpu meter! Please, I beg of Sony, is this so hard to implement?

I am using mainly Reason for sound generation, and once reason is in rewire mode, it's own cpu meter becomes inactive...

Also, I noticed some vst plugins don't sync to host tempo. a perfect example, Ohmboyz delay (latest version)..delay tempo is stuck at 120bpm

Also I have been reading about 5.0a update, some peop;le say they have it, but after I completed purchase confirmation it took me to a download link for 5.0 build 265..is this the latest or not???

Lasty, is there anyway to control a midi gate? i.e. to insert the midi gate onto an audio track and "play" it via midi, like a synth?

cheers and TIA...

I would highly recommend you get a tool like FreeMem Pro, a memory manager and system optimizer. I have used it for years, on both my DAW and laptop, it works flawlessly and uses very little (next to none) resources itself. It also installs a nice little CPU & RAM realtime meter icon on your desktop toolbar. Every DAW should have one , IMO:

The ACID Pro 5a you are refering to is still in beta testing and is not officially available yet. The 5.0 Build 265 is still the latest version.

Hi Billy thanks for the reply but the link you gave me is dead:(

Regardless, isn't it a bit silly to have to use a workaround for something so simple? The last soundforge version i remember ever using was 4 yet THAT had a cpu meter. my point, is it hard to incorporate into acid? plus acid already has a ram usage meter, and I doubt with 2gig i'll be running out anythime soon with the sort of work I do.

OK, I tried a workaround. I did a control alt delete and looked at the task manager. There is an option so it can be minimized in the bottom right corner and show cpu usage.

I would be happy with this BUT:
When minimizing sometimes it just disappears and does NOT go into the bottom right hand corner! It's a hit and miss. I have 2 pc's one with xphome SP1 and the other with SP2 and they both behave exactly the same way, obviously a WinXP bug. I remember this never happened in Win2k.
And also, the task manager uses cpu cycles! I did a test with reason slaved to Acid Pro 5 via rewire, i loaded a file called "speedtest" for reason which tests your cpu. Granted I am running at 128 asio buffer but with winxp task manager active, pops and crackles came about 10% cpu earlier than without task bar active!

Also, what about the midi gate and sync question..any ideas??

The link is working fine, I just tried it again :)

Anyway, I would recommend you take a look at it. It's not just for ACID, but for using any app or general Windows use. The metering is very accurate too. I use other apps, like SONAR, that have CPU meters, but I still prefer a dedicated utility like FreeMem Pro. It is a nice convenient utility to have.

I can't help you on the MIDI gate/sync question.

I am reinstalling my machine, and wanted to know whether the update was around the corner. If so, I will install it fresh and wait...

That Freemem link is for a RAM defrag utility, not a CPU meter?

I use Coolbeans, a little freebie utility. There is also a tweak to use the system meter at http://www.tweakxp.com/tweak1033.aspx

No, besides being a memory manager and system optimizer, it also provides an accurate RAM & CPU taskbar meter. I should know, I use it every day on both my laptop and desktop DAW.

Ok, I added a question mark because I wasn't sure.

Cool Bean's System Info is just perfect ! I highly recommand this one (only CPU, Memory, Pagefile and Network meters). Usefull with Acid though.

I've detached 2 meters at the top of my screen and now I understand sometime things about my 2go ddram... I'm make'em scream ^^.

wow thanks for the tip re cool beans! AWESOME!

I can minimize the cpu and ram meters to fit perfectly over the acid ram usage display, as if it were part of the program.
