Hello everyone.

Does anyone have a viable alternative to Sound Forge Batch Convertor to be used in a large volume professional environment. The demise of Batch Converter has put a large productivity crimp in our product development.

I should also add that I am primarily interested in converting audio file formats to MP3.

LAMErc3 can batch convert mp3s with many more options than SF.
If you can't find it, leave a post and I'll put up a link when I have more time.

oh yeah.. it's free too.

In my opinion, LAME doesn't sound as good as the one from Fraunhofer, especially at lower bitrates.

My solution to Batch Converter not working with SF7 was to have the intern do it for me...

I would prefer Commercial Off the Shelf software or at least shareware. "Freeware" is frowned upon in my environment. Not because it isn't good but because of Government Security regualtions. Do you have another suggestion?

If this isn't a time critical need, you may want to examine the feature list for the recently announced Sound Forge 8.0 in more detail :-).

I think one of the cheap MP3 jukebox programs will fit the bill. Windows Media Player may even be able to do it.

A more expensive option is Media Cleaner XL.

Please note, Sound Forge 8 will host a scripting environment and allow Batch Conversion directly in the application itself, without the need for a third party application or separate batch converter application. Read Sound Forge 8's recent press release for additional details.

SonyJ_Do,

This press release is painfully lacking any real detail with respect to the new Batch Processor. You use the same screencap everywhere - and give zero details on what is possible - is it possible to see what the other tabs actually look like do...or how the naming convention works?

Does this Batch Processor allow me to store ID3 tag data for MP3 conversion so I don't have to type the tag data everytime. Can I save specific file location data and pull that into a batch as needed. Does the batch work with the region tools? Can I build specific render format elements and save those out to use in a batch with having to re-enter paramaters everytime?

My company specializes in voiceover and sound design so batch functionality is critical to my workflow. I gave up on Forge 6 a long time ago and moved to Wavelab 4.0 for the simple fact that the Wavelab Batch tool kicks the crap out of everything else out there...Imagine my delight to see that Sony saw clear to include a new batch tool in Forge 8 - if I could only get some more detail on this tool :)

Here's hoping Forge 8 might mark a return for me.

Canopus procoder has a batch function (plus it's watch folder) and can of course encode to mp3 .....

BeSweet , though free, is one of the best apps for this -- since you can also get the source code for this, i dont see why there would be any security concerns (i would be more concerned using IE and/or windows .....

remember to install the NEW Fraunhofer MP3 PRO Codec before doing mp3 encoding -- since you now can get it for free with media player 10 (without even installing media layer 10 if you want) due to some microsoft quirk
