Subject:Acid Pro 3.0 and MOTU 24 i/o?

Anybody using the MOTU with Acid pro 3? I wanted 24 physical outs from the PC/Acid?

MOTU now say that the 24 i/o is stable on the pc (i thought they were more Mac based) so just wanted any ideas..

I have tested and used both the MOTU AudioWire and Firewire devices.

There is a known problem with ACID and the MOTU Firewire ASIO devices when working at sample rates above 48 kHz and having the ADAT i/o enabled on the devices. This will be resolved in the update.

Q: Why do you need so many outputs with ACID? Are you mixing externally?

Yes i wanted to mix externally to a desk, to beef up the samples a little and not make it so "clinical" and flat sounding....a little more organic..

There is no reason that you could not use the MOTU hardware.

I greatly prefer the Audiowire hardware over their firewire.

I really like the Cue-Mix app. It lets me use the hardware as virtual mixer in my studio. In concert with a Mackie HUI or Mackie Control Universal, it is like having an external 48 stereo bus mixer. If you route things correctly, you can set up everything just like an external mixer.

With multiple Audiowire devices, you can get all kinds of i/o solutions. You are still limited to 24 outputs, but that is a ton. However, the idea is to use software to do the mix. Again, with clever routing (and a good patchbay) you can combine the inputs of the 24 i/o with external gear, and the outputs of the 24 i/o to get some powerful mixing. The downside to this approach is that you can no longer render the complete mix from inside of ACID.

The other plus is that the Audiowire hardware with a 424 card can support cable lenghts of 60 feet! (Hard to find the cables though, I had to special order them.)
