I'm trying to use a standalone ASIO synth to record into Acidpro4 which I'm running with Wave drivers.

The problem isn't with AcidPro :-) but with my audiophile 2496. I just can't seem to find the right combination of settings to record the ASIO stream without also recording the existing tracks in my AcidPro project.

Is there a way to do this on my card ? That is, record ASIO sound into AcidPro running wave drivers ?

I don't want to start running leads in and out of the card unless I really have to since that's just going to introduce latency & noise....

Please, any 2496 users or other experts can help me with this ?

thanks

I don’t think this is specific to your sound card. If you are trying to record a standalone synth, your only option is to record from the wave device and that will record anything that’s using the wave device which means the rest of your song. Why are you using a standalone synth? I can only assume it doesn’t come as a VSTi plug-in. If this is the case, then try using another host application that supports the synth as a plug-in and ReWire that to ACID. (i.e., if it’s a DXi plug-in, use SONAR and ReWire to ACID).

I think the Audiophile 2496 is 4-out. If that’s the case, perhaps you can send the standalone synth out 3-4 and ACID out 1-2. Then use physical audio cables to go from outs 3-4 into inputs 1-2 and record from those inputs.

An ASIO synth: Meaning it is an app that uses ASIO to play through?

Which synth?
How are you getting the "synth" to play? Are you routing MIDI from ACID to the synth? Does the synth have a built in sequencer?

You cannot typically share the same hardware driver in ASIO and Wave mode between two different apps running at the same time. What this means is that if you have a single hardware device - your 2496 - then you can't have the "synth app" play into ACID using the hardware/driver. (I just tried this with an Audiophile and I could find no way to do this.)

You will need to have a physcial connection between ACID and the synth app. That is, you need to route the output of the audio card that the synth is playing through into the audio input that ACID is recording from.

Thanks very much for the reply.

I'm using Fruityloops to host synths and am then trying to play them via a midi keyboard "live" as I record in Acid. That's a slightly odd way of doing things I suppose, but it does have some advantages....

A friend of mine does this using a Creamware Luna card - he can chose "asio" as a sound source in a routing matrix, and record anything being played using asio into Acid running on wave drivers. (When I think about it, I think he does it because he uses a very old version of Acid with no vsti hosting...)

But it seems my little 2496 isn't up to the same job ? Pity, but then I suppose thats why his card cost so much more !!

thanks

Yes, the Luna has a number of great routing capabiities. You wont be able to do this with the M-Audio card you have.

Why don't you host the VSTi's in ACID and just record the MIDI?

You can also host FLStudio in ACID as a VSTi or a ReWire Device.

In the end, you will need different hardware to achieve what you want. Or adopt a different approach to recording your softsynths' audio output.
