I switched to firefox for a browser..but when I try to open up the Acid online help, it won't connect. Do you have to use IE? hope not.

Hi, I use Firefox and I don't have any trouble accessing online help. I can also select Sony on the Web and Acid will connect via Firefox. Not sure what to suggest. You've made sure Firefox is your default browser? I'm almost positive I didn't change any settings in Acid.

Hope this helps,

Chris

Johnp358--I'm not sure I understand completely. I've been able to use our online help on a system that had Firefox installed (though Web links from the help opened in IE rather than Firefox).

Are you saying that external links from within the ACID help file don't work, or are you unable to open the ACID online help at all?

Internet Explorer is still installed on your system, correct? The HTML Help format requires that IE v4.0 or later be installed.

Do you experience the same problem with other applications' help? You could also try searching your computer for *.chm files and let us know what happens when you try to open them.

Thanks,
Kevin

I can open the acid online help..it gives me the "new features for Acid 5" screen..but when I click on any link, or any entrty in the contents..it gives me the "page unavailable, check your internet settings," page. I can click on the Sony site out of the help section and it connects though. It's just the online help. IE 6 is still installed. Firefox is the default browser.

The online help works with Live 4.04.

When I click on the acid50.chm, I get the help file..it's in the sony/shared plugins/help files folder..

but..I don't think that file is the same as the one that opens in the program itself..

help (literally)

Interesting. . . .

When you double-click ACID50.chm, can you navigate links? FWIW, this is the same file that is called when you choose Help\Contents and Index or press F1. No matter how the file is called you should get a two-pane window with navigation tabs (Contents, Index, Search, Favorites) on the left and the actual help content on the right. This is essentially a skinned IE window/

The online help function in Live 4.04 actually just calls a PDF, so the problems you're experiencing likely wouldn't show up there.

Just for grins, try setting IE as your default browser, and then see if you can run the ACID help.

My guess is that something in your OS or IE installation has been corrupted. Do you have the latest service pack installed for your OS?

Thanks, and sorry for the troubles,
-Kevin

made IE the default browser, and all the problems disappeared. Unfortunately, i want to use Firefox and get rid of IE.

but thanks anyway. I'll just be investing in the 45 or so adware/spyware etc things to keep the help section in Acid working.

Not sure why you can't have Firefox as your default browser. Have you tried uninstalling ACID, setting Firefox as your default browser and then reinstalling ACID? I have trouble with one or two programs that will only use Internet Explorer to go online but ACID isn't one of them.

Glad to hear that you can at least get to the help file now.

You should be able to use Firefox as your default browser (though you won't be able to get rid of IE entirely)--I've run my help-development system that way, and I know several of our QA engineers have also done so without incident, so I'm stymied as far as what might be going on here.

We'll continue to try to reproduce in-house.

Again, apologies for the inconvenience,
Kevin

thanks kevin. As a recent switched backed to a PC (as well as a return to Acid.."now with midi" as the last sales rep for SF told me would happen when Lake Mendota froze over in july, which actually doesn't seem that out of the question..) guy after 3 years on a Mac , I was really taken back by the amount of swill that comes over the net via adware/spyware/viruses etc since I switched back.. So Firefox really worked out well. I am going to switch my DAW to a straight DAW though, no 'net at all...as soon as I get enough $$ for one of those new mini macs.
