I did everything that you guys told me. I now have the drum machine acting as a slave with ACID being the master. When I hit play in acid, the drum machine starts playing. I can tell that acid reads the signal from the drum machine because the meter moves in acid. Also, when I hit record in acid, I can see that the waves or whatever they are appear in Acid. THE PROBLEM IS THAT I CAN'T HEAR THE DRUM SOUNDS!!!!! I muted the rest of the song and still can't hear the sounds... I am so sorry for my ignorance. Please advise!!!

Sorry, I didn't follow the story from the beginning but... Can you please tell us or draw us a quick schema of your drum machine routed to your PC ?

thanx

Certainly,
I have a cable going from the midi out of the drum machine into the In of a USB midisport. A cable is going from the out port of the USB midisport inot the MIDI IN of the drum machine. The MIDIMAN is interfaced with my computer with a USB cable. The activity lights are flashing so I know that there is connectivity. The only way that I hear the drum machine play is to have the earphones plugged into the drum machine. I can not hear them play in ACID. Thank you for responding.

That sounds like you are recording the MIDI data in Acid. MIDI data has no sound on it's own.

You either need to record the audio out from the drum machine"s audio outs (usually 1/4" to your soundcard's line in (consumer card = usually stereo mini plug, pro card = either RCA, XLR or 1/4") to an audio track in Acid or use a VSTi triggered by the MIDI track you recorded or (and I don't know why you would want to) send the MIDI track back out to the drum machine and trigger it's sounds.

If you intend to record the audio rather than the MIDI data from the drum machine, there is no need for a MIDI cable connected to your drum machine's MIDI out to the MIDI interface's MIDI in if Acid is the master.

Adding to MJhig, maybe that giving the name of this Drum Machine will light up our minds.

Midisport is an interface that only transfers MIDI data to your PC, which means notes that are being played, knobs that are being turned in and out, etc. It does not transfers AUDIO data. For this, as said MJhig, you just need to link your drum machine's AUDIO OUTPUTS (Stereo if possible) to the AUDIO INPUT of your Audio card.

Maybe that I can draw you a little schema, but for that, tell us which SOUNDCARD you have, and which drum machine you're trying to get along with Acid.

Like MJ said. You need to connect the audio outputs of the boss into your soundcards audio inputs. From what you've described of your setup you only have midi cables connected. Remember what I said before that the midi data is not the drum sounds, it is a recording of your performance, which inturn triggers the sounds on you drum machine.

Another thing worth mentioning is that you probably won't be able to hear the sounds until after you record them into Acid. This is because, Acid does not have an "input monitor" feature. That is you can't listen to the sound coming in on the input of your sound card. Therefore you must record the audio into Acid from the drum machine then when you finish recording it, you can play it back and the you will hear it.

I assume from this statement that somewhere along the way you have the audio output of the drum machine correctly plugged into the audio input of your soundcard. Like Rednroll said, the reason you can’t hear the drums while recording is because ACID doesn’t do active monitoring while recording. You must monitor your signal some other way. (using headphones on the drum machine is a good way) Again, as Rednroll suggested, I would let the song roll and record all the drum parts. Then just have the drum parts playback in ACID as you record other tracks.

i agree, it's much easier to just record the drum tracks and just line up the wav file.

if you using a lot of loops you'll probably have to nudge them anyway to find the right feel.

it's a drum machine so you already know the exact tempo.

you wouldn't even have to run the beatmapper.
