Input Playback

When I record a guitar track i have an issue. I have the input Monitor ON and when I play through the computer i get an automatic delay. I play a note and I hear it a fraction of a second later. This makes things very hard when test effects plugins because i cant play multiple notes in a row it becomes a jumbled mess. Any help out there?

This is called "latency" and is usually soundcard related. If you have a soundcard that supports ASIO, you should be able to set this up with virtually no noticable latency. If you're working with a Creative card or similar, latency is part of the low-cost package, and there is little you can do. Effects will heavily add to the latency issue as well, especially VST with a wrapper or big, fat DX plugs. Make sure nothing else is running in the background, make sure you've got everything tweaked, using ASIO drivers, and you should be fine. Unless you're running a cheapo sound card.

Hey spaceman,
How are you recording into your soundcard? Direct? I have an "el cheapo" Audigy 2, I use a Line6 SpiderII Head-only with the stereo line/headphone outputted into my Line In and NEVER use the input monitorON switch, I hear with no(perceived) latency all day long and have successfully multi-tracked many ditties. I remember once using it and getting a real fast ms delay thing going...sounded feedback-like and never used it again. Oddly enuff, the Audigy cost me $100 bucks....lemme know I can help ya out of your situation if it still is a problem.

By the way, the ASIO I wanted to use but cant record beyond 48k 16bit, and I can't have that, must have 96K 24bit, which at least you can get with the Audigy2 with the Creative driver
