Problems setting up network rendering.

I have two high-tech PCs. Both have Vegas5 installed. I ran the Network Renderer (NR) on the "slave" PC and it seems to be in the READY state. I ran the Network Renderer (NR) on the "Master" PC and it too looks OK, but I don't think they are seeing each other as the "Renderers" tab is blank.

I left the NR on the SLAVE running and ran Vegas5 on the MASTER. I initiated a Network Render to AVI using the PAL codec, but got the error:

An error occurred while creating the media file:

Error: 0x80131940 (message missing)

What could be the problem? How can I tell if Vegas is seeing the SLAVE renderer?

I've disabled all Firewalls.

Setup is:

WindowsXP SP1
LAN 100 MBit
Plenty of HDD left
CPU 3.2 GHz

You have to add the render machine manually.

See Help>Network rendering>Setting up your computers>Add or remove renderers.

UPDATE:

Tried the same thing, but to drive F, an external USB HDD. Worked OK. Then tried it on drive C, it worked also.

I just realised that in order for the two Renderers to work, you have to add the SLAVE host name into the HOST's Network Renderer. This is OK so far.

It seems to be all working except for what seems to be a licensing issue. On the HOST renderer, after trying to render an AVI, I get this for the Error Status of the last job:

spare01.home Failed to obtain serial code.
jdmils EULA was violated by tcp://spare01.home:53704/NetRenderService.rem

Spare01 is the SLAVE
JDMils is the HOST

I entered the same serial number into both Network Renderers. Is this OK? What have I done wrong?

Are you running identically registered currents version of Vegas (5.0d as of now) on all machines?

This sounds like you are running 5.0a. In that version you had to install the full version of Vegas on your main machine and all others you would ONLY install the network rendering client. If you installed full versions on all your machine the network renderer would fail with an EULA error (End User Licence Agreement).

From 5.0b onwards Sony modified the install to allow you to install the full version of Vegas onto up to 3 machines (this was to re-instate the <VERY> useful capability of running Vegas on a laptop <and> your desktop (not at the same time) without vioating the EULA).

So... check which version of Vegas you have... and if it is 5.0a - upgrade to the latest version. If you are on 5.0b or later... then something else is going wrong.
