Subject:Sound doesnt seem to be stereo

I am recording sound with Sony Sound Forge 7.0, a stereo condenser microphone and my Creative Labs Soundblaster Live soundcard. I am recording but my microphone isnt picking up very good. The bars in the record window dont go up far. I have also noticed when I view the sound I have recorded in the graph view (time display) both channels are exactly the same, despite the fact that I am using a stereo microphone. What could be wrong here?

Exactly the same? How are you determining this? The waveform display is very low resolution and there may be differences that aren't visible. Also, a stereo microphone probably isn't going to show much channel separation even in the best of environments.

The most likely problem though is that the mic input jack on the sound card is probably mono.

Mono input is prolly right... or it could be that you have only one mouth... and both sides of the mic pretty well pick up what comes out of it about the same. I've often wondered what stereo mics were for... being I've only had one mouth most of my life.

P.S. Yeah, I know stereo mics are for recording sources like a band or choir at a bit of a distance and offer at best a hint of separation...
