Subject:Bring volume up

How do I bring the volume up without making the louder parts sound bad. I am new to soundforge. Do I need to normalize?

Normalize will raise the entire song so that the loudest peaks are at 0dB (or whatever level you choose). It affects the entire song evenly so the overall dynamics will be still be the same after normalizing as they were before. You need to use some sort of compression to reduce the peaks as the quieter parts are raised. If you have the full version of Sound Forge take a look at the "Wave Hammer" function, which makes this entire process almost point'n'click easy.

Even the lesser version of sound forge offers an RMS normalize... and the music setting with dynamic compression is not bad.
