Hello

I have installed Acid 5.0 trial and when I want to run it, it just freezes my comp (WinXP Sp2 with latest MS .Net Framework). I have tried to uninstall Sony Mediamgr, but it still freezes. Does anyone know what causes this problem? Please, I’m addicted to Acid ;)
Thnx
(sorry for bad English)

I've already had this kind of problem with Acid 4. The cause was an incompatibility with a VST or VSTi plugin. I removed the VST plugins and it solved the problem.
I'm not sure that you are experiencing the same problem but you could check the VST plugins and maybe disable them.

Djipy could be on to something. Try changing (temporarily) the name of your "VST Plugins" folder. ACID looks to this folder when first opening up and will automatically scan it for VST plugins. If during this scan process, it encounters a VST that ot can't scan properly, then it will freeze up and keep ACID from ever opening. I had to do this one time. I just renamed the folder to "VST Plugins1" and I was able to open ACID. I then went into the "VST" folder, in ACID Preferences, and did a manual rescan, of the folder, and it went through okay, this time. It is probably a problem VST plugin.

Hi Silvio:

You might also try a program called "DX Plugman", a freeware program on the net at "www.vb-audio.com". It allows you to either enable, disable, or remove, a particular DirectX plugin. (Or even those that are VST wrapped plugins).

Put this .exe in a directory with a shortcut to it on your desktop. Run it and
then disable the suspected plugins (or all if desired). It should then hide the
plugins from the application on startup. That way, you don't have to rename or remove anything. Just enable a few at a time and keep trying to startup
ACID (or any other plugin crashing application) to fingure which one is the problem.

One word of causion....

ACID 5 creates big time problems when you uninstall it. It can royally f-up your machine and plugin config. Especially if you have other plugins and apps installed also. At least it did for me a few others. Until the update,
I ain't foolin with it. I don't care what it can do. (See others posts on the uninstall issues).

Good Luck

Peace

Hi!

Thank you all, I tried all but no luck, it still freezes on start. I guess problem is more complicated and I will not reinstall all system just because this (evidently) not so good upgrade. Maybe I’ll just go back to AcidPro4, or I’ll just forgot Sony products.
