Hi all I'm a long-time Acid 'user' (going into rehab soon....) - currently got Acid Pro 4. Was wondering if anyone has got Native Instruments Guitar Rig working as a VSTi in this version of Acid? Anyone know if it's supported as a VSTi in Acid? Thanks for your helps. LD |

Native Instruments mentions it can be used as a plug-in, but does not exactly specify what kind of plug-in (whether its VST or VSTi) at their Web site. Have you tried to get it going in ACID Pro 4? It works as a VST effect with AP5...kinda.. Each time the GR is out of focus you can't hear the effect :-) |

It doesn't appear in the VSTi listing within Acid when I try to insert a new soft synth. I've tried deleting the Registry Key, but it still doesn't turn up. Thinking about it, I'll probably need to make sure it's looking in the right folder for the VSTi. Acid is listed on The NI website, but GR isn't listed in Acid's supported VSTi's. Is JohnnyRoy out there? I think you helped me when I had the same problem with Garritan Personal Orchestra. Thanks all! |

From the description on the Native Instruments site: The GUITAR RIG software offers first-class emulations of classic and modern amplifiers, cabinets, microphones, and effects, letting guitarists easily create any guitar set-up imaginable I would guess that it is NOT a VSTi. The “instrument” is your guitar and the Guitar Rig is a rig of VST Effects that emulate amplifiers and such. Just a guess but unless it’s a virtual guitar player, I don’t understand how it could be a VSTi. (which is probably why you aren’t seeing it as a soft synth) ~jr |

Thanks JR - as usual I think you've hit the proverbial nail on the head. I guess the guitar audio actually recorded by Acid would be the clean sound going straight into my soundcard, and Guitar Rig would then be added as a VST effect in Acid. I guess as long as I can hear the 'wet' sound whlile I record (i.e. with GR effects), it should be ok. I guess this means I can then completely change the guitar sound after recording the part and even duplicate the guitar track with different distortions&effects, which would be great flexibility for mixing later on - better than recording a live distorted guitar part from a miked up amp?! (I'm sure I've offended some traditionalists there....) As you can see, I'm 'guessing' a lot - if anyone's got this working, I'd appreciate any guidance - I'll have a go myself though. Thanks all! I had a funny feeling Guitar Rig worked as a VST effect only. VST effects are available in ACID Pro 5 only. (It's a new feature.) Since ACID Pro 5 does not have input monitoring, there's really no way to listen wet while recording dry (like TDuck mentioned). You have to do everything post-recording. Not offended here.
