Will be buying a laptop this week and any other essential system requirements i should be aware of would be very much appreciated thanks

It should be able to use your plain everyday soundcard supported by Windows XP, but you'll most certainly benefit from the performance of a pro-level audio interface/soundcard. Get the fastest and best-performing laptop you can buy. The best advice I could give is to keep software installations on the new laptop to a minimum. Uninstall any software you don't plan on using. (What I hate the most are those "hold your hand" software apps hardware vendors install on the system mostly because they think you're too stupid to figure it out yourself.)
