Subject:Separate track recording. Need help

I'll try to explain myself as best I can. I want to record a separate track in Acid. I want to lets say record a keyboard track to a drum track already painted in and have that keyboard track only contain the keyboard audio. When I go to record, I get the drum track AND the keyboard audio mixed together in the new track. How do I record a new track without the other tracks being recorded as well.
Thanks in advance, and apologies if this has been covered a million times.

AND if that doesn’t fix it, let us know. But usually its because you are recording from the wave device instead of just the line in.

Greetings,
This is my first time posting on a forum of any sort but let me see if I can help. I hope I'm understanding you correctly. I use ACID 4.0 but the procedures haven't changed much since ACID 1.0 back in the day. So the drum track is painted and you want to play the keyboards over it through the recording device? This may sound like to total garage style of doing this but if all else fails... Render the drum track, burn it and play it on your CD player through a set of headphones and record the keyboard track without anything else. Then render that track and put the two together. After you put them together you can fix any parts that aren't quantized. I've had the same situation when recording my vocals on my tracks so this is how I do it. If anyone else can tell me better let me know. Good luck!

The problem stems from the fact that most sound cards record from the wave device by default so every sound from every input or output is recorded (sometimes referred to as “What-U-Hear” mode). The solution is to manually set the record device (in the Windows Volume Control applet) to just the input you want to record from and disable all other inputs. No need to do any elaborate CD recording procedure. Just learn to configure your soundcard for recording the input you are using.

I explain how to use the Volume Control applet to set the recording device in this post.
